I was wondering what was the best score you have shot at trap with a 20 ga? What choke was best and shot size? Bought a nice one today and was going to play with it alittle from the 16. Thanks

23 for me. Only time I shot trap with a 20 ga was the first time. Win 101 field gun, screwed in a full choke, 7/8 oz of #8 at 1200 f/s. Shot 19 with an unmounted gun thought this ain't hard. Went 23 straight with a premounted gun. Thought that trap was easy..lost. Thought now if I had a 12 ga and 1 1/8 oz of shot I would have gotten that last bird...lost. Got a 12 ga and only shot the 20 for hunting and at sub-gauge sporting clays.

Had a guy ask me once why I used a 12 ga. for shooting trap.

Told him ATA didn't permit a 10 ga.

Broke 149/150 at Oxford gun club in Pa. in 35 degrees weather with 25mph wind..missed the next to last bird on last round..no excuse..just couldn't feel my finger..winning a piece of chicken can be a powerful motivator...used my 20ga Beretta 391 Sporting

They have 20ga trap events in Italy and they load ammunition specifically for it. The Italian RC brand 20 ga. 'Trap Load' is loaded with 25grams [13/16oz.] of number 7 shot and it is very good ammunition.

With bunker now being limited to 24 grams of shot a normal 20 gauge load of 7/8 oz. is larger. Plenty of people shoot 7/8oz loads in their 12's too, but that's not the same as our average 20's because the 12's are likely set up as trap guns. Some 20's like a Beretta with the stock adjustment shims can be easily adjusted to raise the POI, but many cannot and that makes it harder .. I would think.

Can't say that I have ever run a 25 with a 20 at trap, but I don't usually use a 20 at trap either. Sometimes before dove season I have have done a bit of that, just because. Pretty sure I broke all that I was entitled to ;-)

    Hey,

I shot a 99 in practice with 3/4 oz in my BT 99. You do not need a 20 to shoot a 20 gauge load.

    Take care,

    50 straight, dropped 1 in the third round------for 74 X 75.

"std" 20 ga. target load (7/8 oz #8 @ 1200 fps), Ruger Red label 26" field gun, ruger "full" choketube.
