I think you might be talking about Annies, 5-bird races, protections, miss and outs, one tie-all tie's. Something other than practice, league or registered shooting. Generally there is money, food, prizes involved.

If you're talking about hunting, that would apply to shooting a covey or group of birds while nesting close together. NOT LEGAL nor sportsman-like!!!

I would guess that 'pot shooting' would be a generic term for shooting games where part of the money goes to the club and part into a 'pot' for the shooters. As Mette56 posted above, they are usually games like Annies, Killers, Follow the Leader, Bushwhackers, Bluebirds, Quail Walks, or whatever.

Basically, it involves shooting for money, generally at long yardage (27 +) and at targets often set at wider angles and faster speeds. Those that don't win become comedians on trapshooters.com.

The "pot" shoots that I am aware of is that you buy a ticket/s on a drawing to be drawed for 1 of 3 spots to take a shot a single target with a club provided shell. You are a long way back and sometimes set off at a hard angle away from the trap. The lead on the target is usually enormous if you're off to the right side of the trap, and if you get left angle that presents more of a straight away shot, its shocking as to how high you might have to hold over the bird. Most of the shells provided are basic line loads and its probably more luck than skill if you break one. Pots can be a few dollars to a couple thousand depending on the number of participants and the last time it was broken. If no one breaks it the pot continues to grow.

P.S. then there are just games like piece protection, straight protection, 5 & 10's across, bushwackers, long birds, follow the leader, shoot til your out of shells.

Some of you have your rubber bands wound WAYYYY too tight. This is a internet forum not a college class. Take a chill pill and have fun. You got your answer and others had fun all in the same thread. What harm was done besides you bust'n a few blood vessels over nothing?

Where I grew up, "pot" shooting was shooting a bird on the ground just for something to eat. No sport "on the wing" stuff when you are hungry!
