605555 “H” coded shooter, 1 ½ yard handicap yardage rule
would not allow reductions from the 1 1/2 yard punch
for two years from the new yardage.

If you earned 1.5 yards shooting one event, you have an H code. I have an H code and a Y code, but neither appears on my card. They are in the ATA computer.

H code means you are sent to Trapshooters Hell for 2 years. You got lucky one day and birds you would have normally missed got a chip out of them and were scored dead. It was probably only one or two, maybe three birds, but your good luck comes with a price. Consequently you got yardage and now you must be punished for two years before any review can get you a yardage reduction.

So now you get to go out and shoot at your new yardage and become frustrated at your low scores. You may even consider quitting because the cost of shooting has increased and you find yourself not shooting competitive scores. You'll hear squawks of "learn to shoot your new yardage", but the high cost of shooting these days takes a lot a pratice away from any but the ones with deep pockets.

But this two year sentence has a great benefit to the big boys. It keeps you out of their hair and out of any of their purse money.

I thought the Y code meant that "Y"ou should be standing closer to the trap.
