Seems a lot of sub-gauge guns for sale and people talking about shooting them a lot so what exactly do you do with them? With the exceptions of skeet that uses all four (inc'l 12ga) and some bird hunting with a 20ga, what else do you shoot? What other purpose does a 28 or 410 serve?

Skeet, Quail (usually 28), Rabbits (410), other small game depending om my mood. Plus, I have played with using 28 gauge for trap practice (in a 34" sub-gauge tube in my trap gun) due to how cheap they are to reload, but the hulls are hard to get at a decent price, so I've kinda given up on that.

We use them all on sporting clays, doves, skeet, and even 410 16yard trap.

I have an 870 28 ga. with a monte carlo stock that I shoot trap with from the 16.
I use it for skeet once in a while and plan on some sporting clays as well. Lots of fun! Mike.

20 ga. is about all I use for hunting from ducks to squirrels and even geese although it is a bit light for them. I just think it is more challenging and most 20's are lighter and easier to hunt with than 12's

20 guage for Skeet, Sporting Clays, and Pheasant/Quail/Chukar hunting. Also used it for ATA doubles until I got a doubles gun.

This spring I sold the neighbor lady an 870 .410.

Last weekend she TRIED to kill a skunk with ½ oz of # 9's.

Made the skunk mad and he sprayed her front lawn and porch of her house.

Now she wants to trade it back for a 20 guage.

I think you'd have to be pretty close to kill a skunk with a .410 skeet load.

    Shot from a 410 has the same energy as a 12ga .

Skeet, Skeet, and Skeet. Oh yes, when shooting skunks use bigger shot and do it on a neighbors lawn...

I recently started using my 28 ga for all sporting clays main events (not small gauge events) and FITASC. Damn the cost. I'm gonna have fun next year.
