I am trying to figure out which day to hold our monthly one day shoot next year. Sat or Sun.

I have always felt that Sundays were more successful than Saturdays.

What are some feelings about this.

I would guess more people work Saturday than go to church sunday...

Sundays are much better, especially for those clubs which have a large Orthodox Jewish membership...

... I couldn't resist... you should see the necks snap at my family get-togethers when I start talking up my shooting events!

I'm envious you can shoot on both weekend days... our club is limited to Sunday afternoons...

    best regards,

    Jay

Tri County Trap Club at Redlands Shooting Park CA shoots on Sunday.

Sunday has worked well for many years.

FWIW.......the two day weekend shoots seem to usually have a few more shooters on Sunday.

Although Sundays may be better than Saturdays, check your calendar for proposed dates. There usually is a poorer turnout on the following Sundays: Mother's Day, 4th of July Sundays, Father's Day, graduation Sundays, Sunday afternoon Super Bowl games, and on dates when the[friendlier]club down the road has an organized shoot that starts on time and has better set targets, cheaper entry fees, tastier reasonably priced lunches, better trappers/scorers, and much more envied prizes.

Assuming that your shoot will include all three disciplines (i.e., singles, handicap, and doubles), give some thought to which event will take place first. Also, look up some old messages written by Spitter and try to get some pointers on involving the whole community and publicizing your monthly events.

Can you shoot both? If so, have a marathon based program on Saturday for those who like to shoot lots of targets. Set a trap up for all three events and let them bang away. On Sunday, hold your regular 100/100/50pr shoot. Even on Sunday we have some guys shooting "special events" after the program. Targets in the air is money in the bank.

In the Pittsburgh area, the shoots are almost always held on Sunday. They run enough hours that most can get there after church.

    Hey Ron,

Most shoots here in Georgia are on Saturday. Not sure how the SC shoot dates are structured but if Spartanburg was on the 2nd Sunday of the month some of us would come up and shoot Greenville on Saturday and then Spartanburg on Sunday and make a 2 day trip out of it.

Not sure if this is possible but just a suggestion.

    .

    Twelve shoots next year ?

Half on Saturday and half on Sunday ?

Alternating each month while avoiding holidays like Easter, Mother's Day, etc.

Thanks for all of the suggestions and opinions. It looks like we are going to stay with the 1st Sunday of the month.

With extensive experience with 3 far west clubs and additional with many surrounding clubs, Sunday is the day to shoot for whatever reason. My current home club can almost never attract shooting on Saturdays. Nothing wrong with 2 day shoots however......breakemall
