What 410 wad do you use with old Winchester AA and the newer HS Hulls ? Can you use the red claybuster for both hulls ? If so does the powder recipe have to be adjusted ?

There is no wad that will provide satisfactory results in both hulls. The ID of the HS hull is much larger than the CF hull, and is straight walled (as opposed to the tapered walls of the CF case). You'll either end up with a wad that is too tight for the CF hulls, or too loose for the HS hulls. There's a reason why they make 2 different wads...

I only load STS, and use the factory STS wad. I have a friend who loads the CF, and is using white claybusters or PC wads, and another friend who loads HS and is using the red claybuster wads.

Win Primer, STS hull, 16gr Win 296/Hodgdon H110, Rem SP410 wad, 229 grains Lawrence Magnum #9. 3 100s in the .410 last year with this load (in addition to one last year with this load, and my first one a few years ago with the same load but using 8.5 shot).

Winchester CF (old style) hull ---- PC Orange wad (Pattern Control)

Winchester HS hull ---- Remington SP-410 wad (better than Win HS wad)

I load and shoot 5000 per year. H110 is THE powder bar none!

You should give Alliant 300MP a try. IT's cheaper, made in the USA, and I'm getting the same hull life as I was the 296

OK will you guys please clue me in on where to find any other wads than the claybusters? Or do you have the market cornereed? LOL --- The only wads around Detroit, Mi are the CB's and I am not happy with the results in Federal hulls Remington hulls and AA hulls are a little better. I'm using 2400 powder and will get whatever other powder I need to make these loads better. I want to shoot skeet and dream of a (60 yard goos killing shot)perfect score.

Hodgdon H110,also labeled as Winchester 296, is a great 410 powder. Winchester AA (HS) hulls will outlast all the others combined. Claybuster wads work fine. 410 skeet is challenging, but addicting. It,s probably not your reload's fault when you miss. :) Mark

You can get Remington SP-410 wads from Gamaliel. Order a case (10 bags) and the price will come down a bit. Shipping is not bad.

I just bought 10 bags from Gamaliel for $132.50 plus $10.35 shipping. That is $14.28 per bag of 500 wads.
