What 3 guns have impacted trap shooting the most ???

Modern guns...as we know them...last 75 years or so. In order of their impact ..IYHO.

Is there one that dominated the sport EVER? Back in the day...vs now?? Or any other comments...

    Winchester Model 12
    Remington 870
    Browning BT-99

These three guns have shot more Trap targets than all the others combined.

Kinda like asking what engine won the most Indy 500's. Not necessarily the best now...

You are may be right Big M...

But...I'm not sure the guns of today make the shooter either. In fact that's the reason for the post...I thought it might reveal what the world champion shooters down thru history have shot successfully...maybe on par with the P and K guns of today. Or not...? I don't know?

Comments on today's most sought after guns are welcome...maybe even comparing present day guns with the top choices back when.

Do they even have any similarities with the top choices back then, that helped them evolve to where they are now?

I am open to suggestions for second and third place, but number one would have to be the ubiquitous Model 12. For more than a half century it was the affordable, everyman's trap gun, used by winners and wishers. That's a heck of a record. Take away the Model 12 and the people that carried them and see what's left.

Well, let's ask the top shooters if they would choose to give up the new guns for the old ones they shot.

Model 12, hands down...for its time...

I would think the short list should include the M12, M1100 and BT99.

Here is a back up question, who has not used one of these three at some point in their trap shooting career?

Win 12 Trap, Rem 1100, and any SBT Shotgun designed for trap only (I4, Ljutic, and BT as examples)....

870--1100--M12. In that order because I think they are the most used guns just by sheer numbers on trap fields for the past 100 years. Before the 870 it would be the M12 hands down. Ross Puls

Model 12 and "debates". My guess: Model 12, 870, the entire Perrazi line up of models.

Of course influential, IMO: Ljutic and Perrazi. These are my WAGS and may be way wrong.

I bet many top shooters are less interested in this question than the average guy! I would bet a top shooter, all else being equal, views his/her gun as a tool, not an object of total reverence and interest. But that's a whole 'nother topic me thinks.

    1. Winchester model 12

    2. Remington 870 & 1100

    3. Browning BT99

In my opinion, the above shotguns have made trapshooting what it is today. These 4 guns have stood the test of time from the beginning shooter to the most seasoned professional. As much as I respect each of the above guns, the model 12 is royalty, and we as shooters should know it's part in the development of our great sport.
