Speaker of the House, pelosi feels that I am un-American if I DISAGREE, and say so, with the democratic healthcare plans,,,,governmental takeover of our liberties is UN-AMERICAN!!!!!So is it "American" to RAM something down the throats of Americans that they are AGAINST????

"Drowning out opposing views is simply un-American."

'Un-American' attacks can't derail health care debate

By Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer

Americans have been waiting for nearly a century for quality, affordable health care.

Health coverage for all was on the national agenda as early as 1912, thanks to Teddy Roosevelt's Bull Moose presidential run. Months after World War II came to an end in 1945, President Harry Truman called on Congress to guarantee all Americans the "right to adequate medical care and protection from the economic fears of sickness." From President Lyndon Johnson to President Bill Clinton, to President Obama's winning campaign on the promise of reform, there hasn't been a more debated domestic issue than the promise of affordable health care for all.

    (Steny Hoyer)

    (Nancy Pelosi/USA TODAY)

We believe it is healthy for such a historic effort to be subject to so much scrutiny and debate. The failure of past attempts is a reminder that health insurance reform is a defining moment in our nation's history — it is well worth the time it takes to get it right. We are confident that we will get this right.

Already, three House committees have passed this critical legislation and over August, the two of us will work closely with those three committees to produce one strong piece of legislation that the House will approve in September.

In the meantime, as members of Congress spend time at home during August, they are talking with their constituents about reform. The dialogue between elected representatives and constituents is at the heart of our democracy and plays an integral role in assuring that the legislation we write reflects the genuine needs and concerns of the people we represent.

However, it is now evident that an ugly campaign is underway not merely to misrepresent the health insurance reform legislation, but to disrupt public meetings and prevent members of Congress and constituents from conducting a civil dialogue. These tactics have included hanging in effigy one Democratic member of Congress in Maryland and protesters holding a sign displaying a tombstone with the name of another congressman in Texas, where protesters also shouted "Just say no!" drowning out those who wanted to hold a substantive discussion.

    Let the facts be heard

These disruptions are occurring because opponents are afraid not just of differing views — but of the facts themselves. Drowning out opposing views is simply un-American. Drowning out the facts is how we failed at this task for decades.

Health care is complex. It touches every American life. It drives our economy. People must be allowed to learn the facts.

The first fact is that health insurance reform will mean more patient choice. It will allow every American who likes his or her current plan to keep it. And it will free doctors and patients to make the health decisions that make the most sense, not the most profits for insurance companies.

Reform will mean stability and peace of mind for the middle class. Never again will medical bills drive Americans into bankruptcy; never again will Americans be in danger of losing coverage if they lose their jobs or if they become sick; never again will insurance companies be allowed to deny patients coverage because of pre-existing conditions.

    Lower costs, better care

Reform will mean affordable coverage for all Americans. Our plan's cost-lowering measures include a public health insurance option to bring competitive pressure to bear on rapidly consolidating private insurers, research on health outcomes to better inform the decisions of patients and doctors, and electronic medical records to help doctors save money by working together. For seniors, the plan closes the notorious Medicare Part D "doughnut hole" that denies drug coverage to those with between $2,700 and $6,100 per year in prescriptions.

Reform will also mean higher-quality care by promoting preventive care so health problems can be addressed before they become crises. This, too, will save money. We'll be a much healthier country if all patients can receive regular checkups and tests, such as mammograms and diabetes exams, without paying a dime out-of-pocket.

This month, despite the disruptions, members of Congress will listen to their constituents back home and explain reform legislation. We are confident that our principles of affordable, quality health care will stand up to any and all critics.

Now — with Americans strongly supporting health insurance reform, with Congress reaching consensus on a plan, and with a president who ran and won on this specific promise of change — America is closer than ever to this century-deferred goal.

This fall, at long last, we must reach it.

Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., is speaker of the House and

Steny Hoyer, D-Md., is House majority leader."

Well when these people bankrupt the country and go back to their home districts I'm sure the folks will give them a reception they'll remember in the after life.

Someone has to explain to the narcissistic witch that adding 40 million people to a "free" health care system will not be a cost cutting operation.

IMO un-American is the act of starting this crap without weighing the consequences. (or without caring about them).

If someone sewed her mouth shut they would be doing the country a service.

Not to defend the likes of Nancy or Harry but what she is refering to as un-american is people not allowing the champions of health care reform to present their explaination of the plan. Okay I sort of see her point.

But what Nancy is totally missing is that mainstream america is loudly objecting to what they do know about this new plan. This is the point where the politicians need to shut up (which isn't in their nature) and listen. The worst possible thing these people could do is exactly what they are doing and that is to rush the plan through the process and approve it this fall. The opposition has just begun, they haven't heard anything yet.

If you want to shut them up and see them stop the crap. Make them tell us why they will not be on this plan that they feel is so good.

Or better yet make them tell us why we can't get the same plan they have at the government's expense. You won't see either one of those things happen. Yet we pay for their coverage and we can't get it.

Wolfram, the people know more about this health control bill than our congressmen do, that is 1 reason they are upset! How dare the people do a little research and call them on it!!!
All our liberal representatives want to do is suppress and silence the American people so they can continue with their agenda of destroying our once great prosperous country.

Who are these people to call anyone "un-American"? We are citizens of this great country. May be they were referring to illegal aliens!!! As for me, I believe these arrogant politicians do not see people who disagree with them as "American". The are certainly not treating us as Americans. Perhaps the referenced un-Americans should vote them out of office. BT-100dc

Bo, nice to know that we see this the same way.

BT, you are right on the money too. The un-american thing to do at this time would be to roll over and let some politicos have their way with with us. November 2010 can't get here soon enough.

I just turned 65 and love this country as much as each one of you do. In my 65 years I NEVER thought I would hear a person in high office tell the American people that if they hear their neighbor speeking out against this program they should report them to the goverment. Jack boots and iron crosses all over again in the land of the free that our fathers died for to protect.

    dahaub(dancing union boy)

That is why there is different categories if you want to discuss trapshooting you should go to another heading like "Shooting Related". You are a perfect example of a union dues paying Anti-American socialist, the last election is past tense and what you had better concern yourself with is the up coming election with your union socialist party getting their butts handed to them in ALL town hall meetings. You and the unions have helped expose your Anti-American, Anti-Second Amendment Socialist agenda. The obama euthanasia health plan is now at 53% opposed, AMERICANS do not want it and they are turning against the democrat party so, the smell you are smelling at your house is coming from your head not getting enough sun light due to the physical placement....... Milkdud I don't talk about quitters. She quit that's all there is to it. For the rest of you who just want everyone to listen to your drivel and not hear any truth from anyone else I guess that's your priviledge but I'll keep bringing the truth up to your faces. It's a fun time here on trapshooters isn't it? Those that shoot are at the grand and those who talk crap are at home telling everyone how badly the liberals are killing the American idea of government. I'll be there shooting with the best of them on Saturday. I hope my new glasses are working for me my scores lately have been dismal. For those of you who are shooting, good luck and stay sharp. Some of the scores I have seen are tremendous and one will have to be "on their game" to get any kind of trophy. Dan

    Hey,

You forget that Bush charged us as being unamerican for questioning the basis of the current Iraq conflict.

Come one, all administrations attack the opposition.

    Just my comments,

    Jim
