When I was going through x ray school I still worked at Mcdonalds.

    Xray school 8 -430, Mickey D's 5-1.

My wife and I lived in a one bedroom apt and were happy.

A classmate of mine did not work. He got food stamps and ate surf and turf, filet mignon, fish from alaska, crab etc. He got fifty bucks a week and had to spend it. He also got a subsidy for heat which was included in his rent any way.

Thats what we get for working.

    Fellow readers:

One would hope food stamp recipients purchase healthy and nutritious foods with food stamps. If not for themselves, then for their kids. The sad reality is that the food stamp program has no meaningful limits on one's choices. Luxury food items - steak and lobster, as well as junk food selections (potato chips, sugar loaded cereal, donuts, candy bars, twinkies, frozen pizza, etc.) are all 'legitimate' purchases. Cigarettes and alcohol are among the very few items prohibited.

The federal Women, Infants, and Children (W.I.C.) program is what the food stamp program SHOULD be. W.I.C. instruments are product specific. Look closely at the shelves at your favorite supermarket and you'll find small labels indicating what is and is not W.I.C. approved. Luxury items and junk food aint approved. Items that ARE approved would make any doctor or nutritionist happy.

Another unfortunate reality is the significant black market commerce financed by W.I.C. instruments and food stamps. Both are bartered extensively in the underground econonomy. Either can be easily (but illegally) converted into cash at set discount rate or traded for prohibited products.

    Here's an oversimplified example...

Bubbette goes to the Three Stooges Food and Liquor Mart on 127th Street. The crooked owner (or his crooked cashier) runs a phony register receipt for $150 of fake food purchases. Of course, nothing listed on the receipt ever leaves the shelf. At this point the crooked owner deducts a percentage of the total as his fee for converting food stamps/W.I.C instruments to cash. He hands Bubbette $100. Maybe Bubbette uses the cash to buy prohibited items from Three Stooges. Maybe she spends it on something else. Once it's cash there are NO restrictions.

Make no mistake, a percentage of your taxpayer money intended to feed poor children and low income citizens is routinely used for alcohol, tobacco, illegal drugs, tatoos, cable tv service, prostitution, casino gambling, etc. Its one of those dirty little secrets the feds don't want to talk about.

Why would you expect people on food stamps to make good decisions?

And the longer they are on it the wiser they get, I know an asshole that is "disabled" unless he wants to do something, between all the welfare his wife and kid and him gets it amounts to over $4,000 per month, he has no rent, utilities, or food to pay for we all pay it for him, and the rest just buys them booze, cigarettes, and drugs, it really torques my ass

What is important to keep in mind on this kind of thing is that the freeloaders may be living the highlife on your nickle but they don't get to take pride in themselves for what they have accomplished.

Now what would you rather have, a burger you worked and paid for cooked on the grill you worked and paid for shared with the family you work for and support or a steak and lobster dinner paid for by somebody else and shared with a few others that really have no respect for you because you aren't really the one who earned it.

Stand up and be proud that you aren't a bottom feeder.

It should tick everyone off over the fraud that takes place over these programs!

BUT here is the other side of the coin. You can have a career ending on the job injury, FIGHT the state workers health care(L&I or ObamaCare)for 10 years to get proper treatment, have no income for 2 years(during 10 year fight) except for the wife's 6 months on 6 months off(federal contract job)you can be denied help(food stamps) because you own 2 vehicles that run and are paid off!! We were renting at the time also(employment housing)

I was actually given $10 per month, I called them up and told them(DSHS) to take me out of their system and thanks for the slap in the face! HER response, "but sir you have to look at it this way, just think, in 3 months that's $30!!!"

They need to return the food stamp program BACK to the original system it was introduce. That will cut out the present day fraud, the government changed the way it was given out way back when, TO ENCOURAGE FRAUD, who would of thought that was possible from the Feds!!!!!!!!!!!

I use to work in a county store and a guy came in with about 5 kids. He told the kids that they could buy the cheapest piece of candy on the rack. With each kid he paid with food stamps. By doing so we as the cashier paid him back in money and not stamps. They then left. The other guy in the store said he will be back in a min and want to buy beer and cig's. Sure enough he was and he did grab the beer and asked for cig's. I said NO. That money and food stamps are for feeding the kids and not for you to get drunk and smoke away. He got mad as hell and said he is going to report us to some department. I said go ahead because if you do your going to be reporting yourself also. You are going to have to explain what you were doing with the kids and the money you got back in change. Also we have video of it. He looked at me and said a few choice words and left. The good part is he never came back to the store.

I have no problem with someone who is disabled getting some help, but the asshole I'm talking about just has a sore elbow, but it's not sore enough to stop him from doing anything he wants to.

He had been trying to get on some form of welfare for a long time, he use to work for me, staged some accident, was on comp for the max, and when he came back to work he blew a gasket because I told him he had to take a piss test, so I asked him if he could pass it he said no then I said I don't need you here

Hell it works good enough for him to get drunk every night

Welfare reform should be high on the list. Welfare should be done in my opinion as such.
    1 A 6 year total system
2 School provided (2 year degree or trade school)
3 Enrollment of school with in 6 months of first check
4 85% passing grade to stay on
5 No missed classes. You miss your'e off
6 Same pay with 1 child as 5
    7 Drug testing
Any rule infractions result in discontinuance of benefits. These implementations would force people to think twice. Good luck Chuck Hrosik

At least Florida had the guts to require random drug testing for welfare folks. Now let's see if the libs will let it stand. There is a court case brewing now on the grounds it is an invasion of privacy.

I was in line at the grocery store a couple years ago. The guy in front of me was buying a couple LARGE steaks and some other items. He tried to used his EBT card (we have swipe cards now, not food stamps, because food stamps would be degrading, and we call it EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) because calling it food stamps is degrading). Anyways, his card wouldn't work. So he broke out a couple $50s to pay for his food, and was on his way. This is the same guy I'd seen at Gander Mtn in the past buying guns and gear.

Back in 2005, when we evacuated for hurricane Rita, that hit southwest Louisiana, we stayed in a town near the Arkansas state line, but still in LA. We had very little money as it was, went to eat at a local church. We were also given some food stamps to use, but chose not to. My decision. But the fact that I saw countless people, and still do, using food stamps, who are on disability, abusing this system, just is too crazy. Its bad enough what I see here in northwest Missouri. Makes me sick. But no one seems to be able to get a grip on the fraud going on, even insurance related. I'm thankful I am still working, and still paying off over $100K in medical bills as our company has no benefits. I am working to feed my family, and pay off my debt. So much corruption, I just don't understand. Anyway, I should shut up now. Sorry everyone................Rob ( I am also working to support my trap shooting habit, too!!)
