I own a couple of pre 1964 Weaver scopes and have owned them since new. Have returned them from time to time for service (cleaning only as I've never had a failure on a Weaver or damaged one). Has always been free unless there was abuse. Weaver has changed their service policy for older models at least. Must send to an independent company and the min. charge is $75.00 + freight. A friend recently sent his Leupold back to the factory because it would not stay sighted in. Leupold fixed it for free and paid freight. I'm sure this is old news to some, but sad news nonetheless.

I've never found Leupold scopes to be particularly superior to other medium to high end scopes. However, their 100% warranty and no-cost service and return policy have kept them at the top.

They learned early on how to create and hold on to the market.
