I am thinking of purchasing a weatherby SA08 for upland bird hunting. Anyone have one? Shot one or know anything about them? Your input would be greatly appreciated.

A relative won one in a drawing; his son used it on So. Dakota pheasant hunt. We all looked it over. His problems - stock too short (bought a slip-on recoil pad); recoil was heavy because the gun is fairly light; the heavy/light load piston insert requires disassembly for the changeover from heavy to light loads - piston inserts could be mixed up or lost easily. For a reasonable price, it did kill its share of pheasants. Regards, Ed

There was also an evaluation/write-up in a recent edition of Shotgun Sports magazine. Ed

I bought the 26" wood stock version about three months ago. I bought
to shoot skeet and hunt pheasants with. I was very impressed with
the fit and finish. However, it would not eject trap loads even with
the light gas piston. Hunting loads worked fine. I shipped it to the
warranty center (Almans). when I got it back I test fired it and
it seems to be ok now.

I just can't understand WHY someone would buy one of these. There are NO accessories available what so ever, nobody knows about how to work/tweak/modify it etc....

I'd stick with the big names if I were you. They'll always be around and part/service/accessories will always be plentiful.

    That's my input.
