They are made by SKB. Good quality steel, and reliable design.

The point of impact is lower than most trap guns. Some people like that, and it's possible for a beginner that would be an advantage.

A good example would bring 8 to 11 hundred, in my opinion. My Blue book is outdated, I won't quote it.

You should get good service life if you do buy it.

There are some high quality OU´s sold by Weatherby made in Italy which predate those made by SKB.

I don't know much about the Orion, but the Athenas are great. Looks great, shoots great, feels great. Fabulous wood. This one is the TRAP COMBO, very seldom encountered. I know they are glorified SKBs, but makes no difference to me.

My first trap gun was a Weatherby Regency. I no longer use it. Over the course of its 5-year life, it split its fore stock 6 times...3 forestocks each split and repaired once. Finally could not get a replacement that matched well so repaired the last one a third time and retired the gun. Never determined why it happened; factory loads, no abuse, light to moderate use.

halfmile is right, they do have a flatter poi. After you shoot it this weekend, let us know how it goes and if it is an Orion or Athena. I have an Orion and my son has a Athena, I like them both as we also use them for Pheasant hunting.

Bigunn, I used to have a 32" over under. It was a very reliable gun and the chambers never showed the first sign of rust and I am not a regular gun cleaner. It had a lower poi and was actually a great skeet and sporting clays gun too. The only other gun that might be a good starter for your grandson might be a Beretta 3901 or a 391 parallel target RL. Good luck on your search. John Ertel

I have a Weatherby Atheana Trap Combo, it is a great gun, never any trouble with the gun. The poi is a little lower on the single barrel, the O/U shoots a 70/30. I shoot a Browning Ultra XT O/U, just because it fits me better, Country Gentleman done his magic on it with his adj. recoil plate & adj comb.
I believe if i had him do the Weatherby it I would be shooting it instead, as it is a beautiful gun
