Just checked the weather at the Grand. Tues. 2pm NY time. 95 feels like 111. Tomorrow 101. What will that feel like? I love shooting but I would never take that kind of heat.

Of course it is all about choices. I chose not to shoot in Sparta when the felt temp is 112 today.

Just talked to a buddy. It is 100 degrees. Very uncomfortable. But two of my friends have shot singles and HC and will be taking the line to shoot doubles.

Another buddy is hunkered down in his motor coach and has not fired a shot.

It is what it is. Different people handle it as they see fit. Health, age, conditioning, personal preferences, and competitiveness all play into it.

The National Weather Service on Tuesday warned that heat and humidity will reach dangerous levels, with temperatures possibly reaching triple digits. Tuesday was expected to be the hottest day so far this summer and the hottest since August 2007.

The service issued an excessive heat warning through Wednesday night. High temperatures in the St. Louis region were predicted to reach up to 102 degrees. Combined with high humidity, the heat index was expected to reach 110 degrees.

People who don't have air conditioning are urged to try to get somewhere that does, or at least keep their homes well ventilated with fans. Those who work outside are urged to be extra careful.

I went there today and got signed up for later events. It was HOT and very humid, my truck's thermometer said 102* as I was leaving at 2:00PM. Supposed to be about the same tomorrow but then a cool down starts Thursday and is supposed to last thru Saturday.

I do realize as a life long resident of the great state of Illinois it's flipping hot and humid, that just goes with the midwest always has always will.

Now for my serious question is Why does the ATA think they need to have this shoot in August why not do it the 1st 2 weeks in October?? Temps are down, nice cool nites so you can enjoy the camping etc!!

Do we need to lobby to get this changed or what.

Sunday (7/31) morning when I shot my weekly trap rounds in El Segundo (L.A., CA), it was 65 degree.

Today, I walked to Hermosa Beach (L.A., CA) for lunch, it was 68. Watching girls playing beach volleyball is very enjoyable.

I'm not going anywhere else. Not for a million dollars. :)

The link is the latest extended forcast. Temps should moderate Thurs, with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s--lows at nite in the low 70s. Sounds like nice summer weather to me.

If you could only shoot in extreme conditions, would you??? The answer is yes. You would not shoot as often as you would like, but you would still do it. We are talking about the Grand American, once a year. Suck it up, and make the best of it. Wayne

I guess if you are looking for an excuse you found it. Yes it was hot today but the breeze that blew all day made it very tolerable. I didn't see them carrying anybody out. People of all ages were shooting and enjoying it. I can remember days just as hot and humidity just as high in Vandalia, so please stop with the comparisons. In addition if you do have a med. emergency they are better prepared here and can get to you quicker. In Vandalia they had to run the rat maze to get to the down person and chances of getting an ambulance to you or even close at Vandalia were slim.
