hang onto those cilica pacs that come with your new shoes Place inside when not in use. Also try web sites for ski stuff. They did make a moister/oder pac that you place in the sun to renew?

Dip them in scalding water (165 degrees or higher).

The odor is caused by bacteria, and it takes scalding water to kill them.

In fact, some of the new energy saving washing machines have a "Sanitary" setting (built in water heater to get water hotter than your water heater can provide) for this very reason, to remove stink from towels and clothes.

There are chemicals that will also kill the bacteria, but they may cause other problems.

Bowling alleys use an aerosol disinfectant on their rental shoes. A friend that owns a bowling alley says Lysol spray is for all practical purposes the same stuff.

    stokinpls,

Would you recommend the microwave for the sneakers, or his feet?

    Just curious

Getting rid of the bacteria in the sneakers won't get rid of whatever they're feeding on and a new batch will just grow in their place. Wash them in the strongest stuff you can find and get them CLEAN! Medical supply stores sell gallon bottles of disinfecting cleaner that work great for cleaning things like this.

Read the thread about baked beans just in case you cant get rid of the stank you will at least be able to learn a new recipe for a different stank to mask the old stank.

The sneakers are a result of excessive foot perspiration. Try Gold Bond foot powder or another until you find tho one for you.

Before you wash those shoes in HOT water, I would check with the manufacturer and see how extreme temperatures affect the integrity of it's waterproofness.

Pour a little milk in them and set them out in the sun to dry. Half/Half even works better...
