I know Veteran classification is up to/through age 69. I have looked at the rule book and can't find when a Vet becomes classified as Sr. Vet. Is it on 70th birthday or does the Vet stay Vet through the current target year - until 10/1/2010 and then become Sr. Vet.? Or...? Sr. Vet. doesn't seem like a very exclusive club/category...seems like more Sr. Vets around than any other classification. Best Regards, Ed

See page 18/19 [Special Categories] of the 2009 rule book J 6&7 tells it like it is.

OldGoat see if this answers the question for you it is from the ATA 2010 online rulebook at the above web address

"4. A shooter who is 65 but not reached his/her 70th birthday may
    declare as a Veteran.

    5. A shooter who is 70 years of age and older may declare as a Senior
    Veteran.

I turned 70 last December so I can declare Senior Vet at my next shoot if I choose. I can also stay as a Vet until September 1, 2010 if I indicate that on my card but I can't switch back and forth once I make that choice.

    7. Shooters who become eligible for new age based categories during
the target year may elect to continue to compete in the previous
category for the remainder of that target year. (For example a shooter
reaching age 70 may elect to continue to shoot as a Veteran for the
remainder of the current target year.) However, once a shooter has
elected to move to the new category that decision is irrevocable and
he/she may not again declare eligibility for the previous category.
Junior shooters reaching the age of 18 may continue to declare Junior
category for the remainder of the current target year.

Thanks, Richard!! Now the problem is: do I declare Sr. Vet. or stay as a Vet for the rest of the year? More sleepless nights...I just got over the 7 1/2s vs. 8s syndrome. Best Regards, Ed

OG: You are not alone in making this weighty decision. I just wish it was still a few years off.

OldGoat- Your decision should be based on the number of Vet All American points you have already accumulated. If you declare as a Sr.Vet., then you can't make the Vet. All American Team. If this is not a concern to you, then proudly enter as a Sr.Vet.

BIGDON- You really can't be close to Sr.Vet. You look like a 40 year old Gentleman and act like a 16 year old kid.

When you get old enough and not till then.

I remember that being said to me when I was a kid. Its still true in a case like this.
