Just in case the above hyperlink is too long, cut and paste this one.

An interesting read and scary. Considering the trash that presently runs our government, this is a real possibility.

You can bet you life on a new VAT. It will start out small, maybe one half cent. But, watch it go up through the years. You can bet your ass, on it happ'in, and soon.

Yes. VAT is coming. Has to be. We cannot keep borrowing from the chinese and putting the burden on future generations. VAT is painless intially, YOu won't even notice it except if you are a bean counter and can see inflation. VAT is (IS) inflation. A bit more controlled than the Jimmy Carter type from the 70s. But it iwll grow each year by 1/2 percentage points. But if I do the math, the 1/2 percent will not be enough to bail us out.

Please explain to me how a tax adds "value" to anything.

    M-12,

Bing or Google: "Value Added Tax". There are plenty of good explanations listed which have been written by competent people.

Make it simple. Go with a Federal Sales tax.
