If that rifle is a pre- 64 model 70 you have something a lot more valuable than the above stated figures.

I dont know about a lot more valuable- you would have to define a lot but it would be worth maybe 800-1000 if it were a pre 64 in 98 percent or so condition and nothing else different about it

From the simmons scope though I was thinking a recent model

    regards from Iowa

to BL - he said "It looks like new but I think it is 6-8 years old".

to tripod - when selling or buying a used gun, always remember that the scope is free. (unless it is a really high end scope). So having simmons scope will not change the price.

To Gary, when a man says he "thinks it is 6-8 years old" that tells me that he really does not know so is worth the time to look up serial #.

To Gene, I have collected Mod. 70's for about 40 years. The standard rifle in .243 is somewhat scarce. More featherweights and varmit mods. were made.
I sold three of these rifles for $1200 to $1300 price range. Now to me 12 to 13
hundred is a LOT more than 3 or 4 hundred. Maybe not to you but is to me. And yes, the rifles must be unaltered and very pristine to bring top prices.
