I have a friend that has a Winchester 1200 trap That he wants to sell. It is in 99% condition with monte carlo stock and fixed full choke. It has a lot of gold accents on it. Thru a little research I did I found out it was a gun Winchester gave away back in the 60's to the winner of some shoots they sponsered. It has a serial# of WCT-68. The guy that has it got it in a trade and never has shot targets. He thinks it is worth about $500 so what do you think???

There was quite a discussion about those 1200's on here a while back. The consensus was that a mint condition 1200 trap Winchester giveaway gun was worth in the $350-$400 area. A couple of these were known to have quite spectacular wood and would fetch a couple of dollars more. These guns have no real collector value so they are worth what they are worth as a shooter.

Would it be dependable for about 1000 shots a year?

I would say $350 if in excellent condition with very good wood, $400 if New in box or extremely close to it. $500 is too much IMHO>

I bought one back in the late 60's for less than $200.00. I shot it for trap, skeet and also hunted with it. It was a great standing mark gun. It did not have any gold on it but I shot thousands of shells through it.
I trade it in and got an 1100 and still have it. Its more a safe gun than any thing else. The 1200 was a good gun to me.

Walk away. They are using gun and that its. They are cheaply made. I just had a friend get one fixed and it cost him as much as he paid for it. Not a good gun in my book

Put about 30k rounds through one in the late 70's. Metal fatigued the bolt carrier ears. Bought a new part ($20 then) and put another 5 k through it until it became my short barreled home defense gun. Alloy receiver but steel bolt locks into steel barrel.

I purchased one for $300.00 last year through a gun shop. It had very nice wood, broke targets with the best of them. The trigger was sloppy, and I could not find a gunsmith willing to work on the trigger.

It is a great gun for league shooting, as shooting heavy trapshooting tournaments might be a strech due to the trigger. In great shape, with nice wood, with the gold cap, top price $400.00 in my opinion. I did like the gun, but resale is difficult as you have to find the right individual.
