DJ Doe Run Lead Smelter Operating; Shipments On Track By End Sep

LONDON (Dow Jones)--U.S. lead producer Doe Run has restarted the second of
two furnaces at its Herculaneum, Mo., smelter meaning the plant is now fully
operational, Jim Grubbs, vice president of sales and marketing said Thursday.

Both furnaces were shut down at the end of August due to unrelated mechanical
    and operational problems.

"We anticipate that shipments delayed by the outage will be back on schedule
by the end of September," Grubbs added.

"We successfully restarted the two blast furnaces at the Herculaneum plant on
Thursday and Sunday, respectively," said Grubbs. "Both furnaces are now
operating smoothly and producing at forecasted levels," he added.

Last week, Grubbs told Dow Jones Newswires that Herculaneum had lost about
6,500 metric tons of production as a result of the furnace failure. The smelter
usually produces 150,000 tons a year.

The furnace failure was the second time output at the plant has been hit this
year. An explosion July 13 in the refining kettle saw production cut by 50% but
by the beginning of August the company said production was back to normal.

Privately owned Doe Run is the largest integrated lead producer in the
Western Hemisphere and the third-largest total lead producer in the world.

As of 0640 GMT, LME lead was trading at $2,955/ton, down 4% from Wednesday's
    high. 9/6/07
