Does anyone load Universal Clays for trap loads? I bought a keg by mistake (thought it was International Clays). Hodgen lists a 1200 fps load but noting in the extra-lite 1145 range. It must be slow burning 'cause it takes 23 grains for a 1200 fps load and only produces light pressure (8000 range).

    Any info would be appreciated.

    I use Gold Medal components.

Universal Clays is best as a 20/28 guage powder but it does have applications for heavy field loads and some top end handicap target 12 guage loads. If you really don't use these kind of shells then your best bet is to sell the Universal Clays and get International Clays or just Clays.

this is top secret but rem hull noblesport primer windjammer wad and 31 mec bushing with universal is a good handicap load (24 yds) and not a lot of recoil. jim w.

Wolfram, is correct. It is a 20/28 ga. powder. Make a trade for some Clays powder. Best 12ga. powder I have ever used, bar none. Good Luck and Break-em all. Jeff

If you shoot at or near the back fence, Universal Clays will whomp up a SUPREME Caps load at 1250 that is easy to shoot, and easy on the gun.

It is not efficient for 1200 foot loads.

Other than that, trading is not a bad idea. Clays and Claydot are great standard load powders.
