    HELLO:
what do you think of this idea? have a non registerd trap event at your local club, and you can only use guns made pre 1970?? so many shooters i know have their model 12's, 31's, 870's, etc in a closet. to be honest, alot of them could shoot those guns better than the guns they shoot today with all the bells and whistles. almost every shooter i know that picks up their old gun says" i can't believe i could shoot this gun, the stock is so much lower than the gun i use today". i really miss those days. people were friendly, no computers, the working man could afford to shoot, more so than today, and the shoots were well attended. anything you miss today, from when you first started shooting?

Sounds like a great idea and plan Steve, when are you going to set it up and do it?

Ya know the only problem would be the time it would take to shoot the event. With that many older generation shooters and guns at the club it would take hours just to get 4 rounds of trap shot per person.

Subject: 37TH LAS VEGAS FALL HANDICAP PROGRAM NOW ONLINE
    From: las vegas gun club
    Email: lvgun1@aol.com
    Date: 17-Apr-08

The "37th Las Vegas Fall Handicap", (Sept.16th-21st,2008) program is now available. You can pull up and print the entire program at the bottom of trapshooters.com homepage under the "What's New" section. Thanks once again to David at trapshooters.com. ,This program will feature the "Retro Handicap, circa 1969-1978" as a kick-off event on Tuesday, September 16th at noon. This event will feature the 3-hole, 50yd target of the 60s & 70s, as well as an entry fee of only $12.50 for the 100 birds. Options, purses and trophies are also representative of this period. We don't want to hurt anyones averages, so we elected to make this a non-registered event. Everyone can give it a try, then talk about it afterwords during our BBQ and party out on the patio. This event is sponsored by White Flyer targets, so hope everyone will come in early and join the fun. We will also be giving away a new TS2000 Custom Single Barrel on Friday afternoon, compliments of Antonio (Tony) DeSimone, along with a lot of cash awards. See program for details. Pre-squad will begin June 1st at www.presquad.com, and we have a room block at Santa Fe Station Hotel & Casino. If you plan to come, make your room reservations early, as we expect all rooms to be taken.

You can email me at the address above for more information, and printed programs will be sent out via mail in June.

    Steve (senior smoke),

That would be a great time especially if you put an emphasis on the doubles class by only allowing slide guns and SxS's. If it was a reasonable drive from my location, I would be there!

Ya know you could do a whole big program of events Steve all themed around time keeping devices.

You could do a Turn the Clock Ahead shoot and only allow guns that have had serious futuristic modifications or a "Rolex" shoot and only allow guns that cost more than $5,000 be entered or a "Timex" shoot that would only allow field guns to enter because they always take a lickin and keep on tickin.

The possibility's are endless Steve and its a great idea what your thinking about doing. Be sure to announce the program on TS.com and if given enough advance notice I bet there would be many people willing to travel just to meet you and shoot in your planned events.

senior smoke, it sounds great to me and I would travel a fair distance to attend.

Of the things I miss are the stunts/jokes we played on one_another. Today we would get suspensions if caught doing such that was taken_in_fun back when.

Mr. Newbius, just how old do you think one needs to be to own a pre 70 made gun???

Great Idea ... I have Winchester 97, model 12, and a 1200 trap that I'd love to shoot in an event like that.

Sounds great! I could bring my Rem Mod 11 that was my grandpa's Louisiana goose gun, and my old Wingmasters. I'd love to try shooting (at) doubles with a shucker.

Pheasantmaster man, we could also have an ugliest gun contest--I'm sure your pride and joy would be in the running for ugliest in show!

    CYA Soon!

So does the gun simply need to have been in production prior to 1970, or is it a strict cutoff by serial number, meaning an 1100 built in 1972 would not be eligible?

Wouldn't be a big deal for me.

I shot retro when it wasn't retro and still shoot mostly retro today.

    870 Trap or 1100 Trap.

If the cut off is that it was made "back in the day" then my 1100 Classic Trap was made too late but the design is the same except for the choke tubes and the finish is like an old higher grade gun. Would that be retro by design or new by manufacture date?
