Trigger job on a S&W 642

    Looking for a smith to do an action/trigger job on a S&W 642 J frame, alloy revolver.

    I wouldn't bother. I also wouldn't lighten the springs, it isn't a target gun, it is a belly gun. Stick it in the bad guys belly and pull the trigger. Polishing is ok but you won't really gain much. I have a dozen S&W 's, mostly N frames. I also have several J frames including a 642. I have done action jobs on all my N frames, they are target guns. But I leave the J frames alone. Lighter springs can also mean slower trigger return. Practice you trigger control.

    Another experienced old head saying to leave the factory springs in the gun.

    Get snap caps and watch the Boob Tube while snapping the gun several hundred times.

    Yep. If you want double action reliability in a J frame, stick with factory springs. It might happen only 1 in 50 rds, but the slightest change to the hammer spring has always resulted in DA misfires for me.
