I was cleaning out some stuff in the basement. Came across an old piece of luggage. Opened it up and found some old travelers checks. I remember buying them years ago, these things are probably 25 to 30 years old.

I guess they are still good? I guess I'll take em to the bank and try to cash em. Probably have to find an old cashier. I'm guessing the young ones have probably never seen any.

    Anybody use these things anymore?

Sure lots of people do that know they have to pay in cash for services and don't want to carry a lot of cash.

I copied this right off American Express web site Do Travellers Cheques expire?
Travellers Cheques do not expire. Unused Cheques can be saved for future trips

LOL. Deposited a 15-year-old Travelers Check a couple weeks ago.
    At my hometown see-me-every-week branch.
Yes, young teller who seemed p.o.'d to handle deposit. Immaturity???
She was skating on her VG looks. Hope she doesn't AGE badly!

I haven't used Traveler's checks for years. I always liked American Express though when I did.

I think I stopped using them when Debit and Credit Cards became popular and I have online access to those accounts to be sure no false charges get in!!

Of course, the "green backs" are always good as well.

    RE: debit card

Check with your bank in regard to debit card fraud use. Many don't give the same protection as a credit card. You could have your checking account wiped out and be on your own....

The last travelers checks I bought were in Korat Thailand when I was leaving

The night before I left I thought it would be a good idea to go down town and seed a few more wild oats

The dumb chick wouldn't take a $25 traveler's check for a normal $5 encounter, she though it was funny money
