I have been shooting trap and other clays sports in a league. When shooting trap we all shoot from 16 yd line. My question is My friend and I were discussing if we might handicap ourselves by moving back a little after the first round of 25. Lets say I shoot 21 and a couple guys shoot 15, would it be safe for the shooter who gets 21 to back up a station or 2 as a handicap for the 15 shooter. My question is, is it safe to do this and how is it done in real shoots?

You do not want more than 2 yards between shooters. So if you are on post 1 and another is on post 2 you could be on 18 and other shooter on 16. If there was a case of 3 yards difference you would need a spsce between the shooters. Shooter on post 1 16 yards shooter on post 3 could be as far back as 19 yard line. Hope this is of some help. Two yards difference between adjacent shooters and a maximum of three yards difference on a squad from the 19 yard line back. At 18 yards, or closer in a league shoot, one yard difference between adjacent shooters and a maximum of two yards difference in the squad.

In our league, we really shoot whatever we want each week, trap, skeet, sporting, so we can move however for trap, I just wanted to make sure it would safe. I will suggest if we do this to make it fun that we honor your input as to 2 yards max if someone is on next station and 3 if there is space/station between shooters. Thanks

Do you really think standing on the 16 post one with a shooter on post two shooting from the 18 yard line is safe . If you do I see a problem in your future .
