BT-99....great entry level gun. Get a 34" barrel if possible.

    Good luck.

34" BT 99 is very good, however, depending on the size of your 12 year old he might be more comfortable with a 32" barrel. Either way if you can get the adjustable comb it would assist your 12 year old as he grows. It's great to hear a young person has taken an interest in the clay target sports. I could also suggest a semi-auto such as a Remington 1100 Classic trap or the competition model. They have very little recoil but they can be a bear to clean but they are good and reliable guns that can provide years of service.

    Good luck with your search.

I would go with the 3901 RL. It will grow with the youngster and you can even replace the stock with an SL stock.

3901 is a clear winner. Another choice is an 1100, but it will be heavier and won't come with an adjustable comb.

I'm a heretic, I guess, but ANY gun that fits is better than a "real" trap gun that is too big.

If your 12-yo is not physically big enough to comfortably use the "real" trap gun, they'll have little sucess.

My kid started out with a Winchester 1400 in 20 ga, and moved up to the same in 12 when he got a bit bigger.

Find a gun that's not too big...when they get bigger, go for the longer, specialzed gun.

If you have a Cabela's near you, you might find a Remington 1100 or 1187. I've seen several nice guns go through our Cabela's here in Hoffman Estates. You could even call them if you want. They have 2 in stock now at @ $550 each.
