I'm going on some college visits in Iowa next week, and have to figure out the best way to get there! From North Chicago Suburbs to get to Cedar Rapids is it best to head up to Dubuque then down to Cedar Rapids, or just jump on 80?
    Thanks a lot!

Trappy, since you have obviously discovered the internet (along with Al Gore), there is also a lil' thing called "Map Quest". Give it a whirl.

Tron, that's how I discovered the 80 alternate route, and being technologically retarded, I don't know how to select alternate routes...

I'd probably angle down on I-88 to I-80 then to Iowa City and up I-380.

But since you seem to be one of the 'save the planet a gallon at a time' kind of guys, the shortest route would be to take ILL 64, cross the creek at Savanna, continue on IA 64 to US 151 then down to CR.

Check out Grinnell college when you are that close. About 60 miles East of Iowa City.

Trappy, Big Ed & Tom told you right.

Take I-80 to I-380. Be there before you know it.

Good luck, drive safely and wear your seat belts........lol

Be carefull of the I-80 bridge on your way home. The east bound lanes are closed at the Mississippi. You will have to take make a detour.

Enjoy looking at both of those schools, but don't pass up THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA. Iowa city is like a small town. I spent last year touring colleges with my daughter, came down to Washington in St. Louis and Iowa. Tuition at Wash U was $54,000!! Iowa the clear choice. If your child has done well in school the honors program at Iowa is hard to beat. Good luck and have fun their senior year goes very fast.

Shouldn't you be looking for a school in California?

Maybe you could wax Nancy's plane?

MIA, I don't know of any. But the good thing with these Liberal Arts schools is that I can start a trap program real easy.
