TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - The first round of Toledo police layoffs, in which 75 officers were let go, may already be having an affect on gun ownership.

"I just don't feel safe with the amount they're laying off," says Jonna Ewing. "I think it's going to be a longer respond time."

She is spending the day at a conceal carry class. She's been thinking of getting a gun for awhile, but feels now's the time due to the recent layoffs.

Here's the rest of the story.....

The majority of Toledos problems have to do with a mayor who thinks he is more of a king that can do whatever he wants. He is up for a recall vote, and if we are lucky he will be gone very soon.

Most communities have one police force on duty, one police force off duty, and 2 retired police forces on pention. All on the tax roll. These layoffs are about money, budgets and union contracts. Bankruptcy breaks contracts.

The "Stimulus" has created 150,000 jobs? So why are there 650,000 new unemployment claims every week? Seems to me that "liberal math" is at work here.

"The police cannot protect the citizen at this stage of our development, and they cannot even protect themselves in many cases. It is up to the private citizen to protect himself and his family, and this is not only acceptable, but mandatory."

    Jeff Cooper

    Around here, this holds true.

Copper - Police called after the fact...well said!
I once had to call the police due to a peeping tom. They said look out the window and see who he is. At that moment I realized "timing".
