I "think" all TMX's had the tapered rib. I had a very old TMX and it had the tapered rib.

I think the only difference is the LOP adjustable trigger on the Specials.

I own both a TM1 Special and a TMX Special. The TM1 has a tapered rib because it is one of the later models, mid 1980s. The TMX, I believe, is late 70s. Rib is NOT tapered.

TMX Special - nicer wood (for a P-gun) and selectable LOP trigger.

I don't see the Special commanding so much more than a regular - especially if you swap out the original for a release trigger.

Thanks, guys. Have never shot one. Am thinking about one to shoot hdc. with. Is the rib about the same height as a DB-81?

The DB 81 will shoot 20-25% flatter than a TMX. The adj. pull trigger and the "special" on the receiver is the difference between the TMX & TMX Special. All TMX s have tapered ribs.
