Social Security is in trouble and has been. Now cut it another year.

Keep taxes low but ask for 2 trillion increase in debt ceiling.

Is he trying to break the USA so that it can never be fixed or is he simply trying to get reelected.

Keeping taxes low give him a reason to beat his little skinny chest.

We are screwed now - another 4 years of him and we will be raped.

Barker and I agree on this.

Here is the link, but you'll probably have to register with washingtonpost.com to get to it. That's not a bad thing. It's the best place to get to editorials by George Will and Charles Krauthammer.

Notice how all the Republicans are suddenly for eliminating the payroll tax cut that will raise taxes primarily on those struggling with bills - the working class. At one time they never would have done this. The excuse is their newly found altruistic position that this increases the deficit. In truth, I suspect they want to foist it off on the working class rather than have the idea of higher taxes on the rich gain traction. I find it ironic that the conservative talk show hosts and others bring up class warfare when it appears they are practicing the same thing.

I find it ironic that, like gun owners, the Republicans take the conservative working class vote as a given, figuring hey, if you don't vote for us, then (insert Dem here) will win.

Mrs Keet... Charles Krauthammer? Really? REALLY? You're pointing people here to read the opinion of a notorious anti-gunner who wants to see all guns - and that means ALL guns - eventually banned in the United States by incrementalism?

Just more lack of credibility on your part.

When are you going to get around to backing up your claim that a whites only gun club exists?

Pay less today, get less tomorrow. SS is not going anywhere. Their just going to be paying a lot less in the future. Just as the average pay has gone down, and it has as compared to the cost-of-living. So SS will follow.

Social Security is not, never has been, and never will be, a "retirement savings program". The taxes you pay into social security simply go to pay the "benefits" of those currently drawing a social security payment. Your social security benefits (if any) will, in turn, be paid for by future generations of taxpayers (if any). There never has been any social security "lock box" of funds nor do you have any vested interest in or "ownership of" some social security fund in your name. It on works as long as there is a large pool of new "investors" each generation, paying in so that earlier "investors" can get payouts. The classic definition of a Ponzi Scheme. Whatever excess taxes were taken in by the government (over benefits paid out in any given year) were simply spent by the government on other things. This so-called social security "tax holiday" is in fact nothing but a shell game. Since the "benefits" still have to be paid out, whatever shortfall in government "income" occurs from the (temporary)reduction in social security tax, will simply be made up from other taxes the government collects, or from more borrowing. Your real tax liability will continue to increase, as will the national debt. The whole thing is nothing but a game (to the government) to fool the taxpayer, and to buy votes in 2012.

LBJ's "War on Poverty" was a wealth redistribution scheme that not only failed, but has caused more poverty by putting jobs killing taxes on small businessmen and corporations. It's sole purpose was not to better life for the poor. It was to make them beholden to the Democratic Party and thus be used as vote slaves.
