Heck, she's just trying desperately to stay alive, politically speaking. She has all but disappeared since Uncle O appointed her. I had thought "why the heck did he appoint her? That just keeps her in the spotlight."

    Wrong!

He seems to have TOTALLY marginalized her! YEA! He's a clever one, this guy.
Not bright, mind you, just clever. I mean, look who he selected for VP. What an embarassment. Kinda like Dan Quayle, only miraculously dumber. Who knew that was possible.

I really didn't think her statement was idiotic at all. Why did you? We now know the standoff is over with a precision strike and the captive is now in the hands of the military and soon to be released to come home or take his ship to destination. Who knows what will happen now. Hiliary is correct about the piracy on the high seas though. I'm not sure why the ships in international waters can't carry guns to protect themselves from these kinds of terrorist. Do any of you guys know why that is? I'm not informed of international laws on maritime activities. Dan

Ships can arm themselves. We did it while still neutral during both world wars. The answer to piracy is to capture/sink all who challenge us. Those whom we capture, we must hang.

Her boss is an idiot as well. Reminds me of hussein, laughing continuously, when asked the most important question of a 60 Minutes interview. Steve Croft asked hussein, what is so funny. Someone should have asked mrs slick willie, what is so funny. Those people are a disgrace.

Just read the news release about the short firefight, which was glaringly absent of any real details. Apparently they have hostages numbering nearly 200 from Russia, China, Germany, Bulgaria, indonesia, Italy, Ukraine, the Phillipines, Taiwan and other countries. Can't believe that Russia or China have stood by for one moment and not done anything but negotiate with these bastards. These people have been doing this since 1786 but were called the Barbary Pirates back then. Sam Adams and Thomas Jefferson called a meeting with the Continental Congress concerning a captured American ship back then. 223 years later they made the same mistake. Killed em' all them, same result today. Apparently Somalians are slow learners. Maybe Barry can apolojize to France and the Saudis for this one the next time they meet. (right after he bows to the Saudis and kisses the french presidents ring.)

New policy going forward: If you're approached by the Somalis in a boat,
Kill'em all before they board your vessel.

Dahaub: I heard on a news broadcast that it was illegal to carry arms on ships in international waters by international law. Don't know the facts. Thought it was odd.

Bigdon, merchant vessels are not prohibited from being armed. There are a couple of reasons why most of them don't -

    - Insurance companies have a say in how vessels' owners proceed. The insurance companies want to minimize risk, which comes in the way of loss of cargo or loss of life. They would rather pay out on the loss of cargo, than risk paying for loss of life in case some ship's master decided to open fire on what could turn out to be an innocent vessel.

    - Shipping companies will incur significant costs in training and arming crews. They have to have enough in weapons and manpower to set watches on a 24/7 basis. That's expensive, and so far, more expensive than paying off hijackers.

That may change with this incident. Costs of payoffs have exceeded $150 million, and this could be the tipping point in arming the merchant fleet.

There are some prohibitions concerning private vessels being armed in certain territorial waters. Geraldo Rivera noted that it was against Kenyan law, among others for private vessels to be armed in their territorial waters.

    Best,
    Dennis

daddi, The Russians and Chinese obviously do not hold human life in the same high regard that we do.

There is one disgustingly simple answer to the problem.

Convoy. Ships flying the US flag going through that area should simply gang up in bunches and be escorted through those waters by a US warship.

Besides, it would be good training for the sailors.

I realize that's not gloriously complicated and doesn't give any politician a chance to be in the limelight.

Probably why they wouldn't do it.

OK let the cargo ship have it's own escort gunship. I know it costs money but the cargo ship would not have arms and could go into the port then. Or a small fast launch able or in tow well armed craft.

This was a ship full of food and relief supplies for them.

Somehow I don't think these millionaire pirates are too concerned with relief supplies.

I believe the original piracy incident SECSTATE referred to as off the coast of Morocco was really the pirates operating out of Tripoli, Libya. She was just "confused."

In all this rush to recognize the "first black" as President we've overlooked the first "moron" to serve as Speaker of the House!
