The war is lost! Pack it up. Major Gun control and eventually (probably) out right prohibition of civilian gun ownership in the US is on the way. The recent horrific, evil events that unfolded in CT will close the door to the greatest human experiment in world history, self-government. While I have intentionally avoided watching all the coverage of this story and all the anti-gun pundits to prevent getting a stroke or at least raising my blood pressure to unsafe levels, I know the discourse taking place. I have to be honest; I’m having a harder and harder time disagreeing with the gun control advocates, but not for the same reasons they sight.

Before everyone gets up in arms, I know, I know. “Guns don’t kill people, people kill people”. “We have plenty of laws on the books already we just need to enforce them.” “We have a constitutional right to…….” I can go on and on, but at the end of the day it just doesn’t matter. We’ve lost. I wish we could hold up the Constitution and use that as the final arbiter, but let us be honest, the Constitution has been on life support for at least the last 40 years, and if the last 10 years are any indication, the priest has been called into the room. I’m not happy to admit it, but WE (as a nation, society, culture) no longer are capable of bearing the responsibility of gun ownership. There I said it. And it’s true! That’s why it hurts so much.

The whole issue goes beyond our God Given Right to defend our property and person. As a society, as a culture, as a country we have squandered our freedoms away. I don’t mean we have allowed an oppressive government to take over, which we have. What I am saying - WE have proven that WE are no longer responsible enough to govern ourselves. More to the point WE can’t be troubled to be responsible, and WE have elected political leaders who are more than willing to take care of US, and assure US that any uncomfortable position in life that we find ourselves in is someone else’s fault. WE are taught (indoctrinated) on one hand that WE are special and can do anything and we have a RIGHT to everything, at the same time we are taught that if we our life isn’t perfect “it’s someone else’s fault”. Couple that with the prevailing culture of; instant gratification, celebration of violence and thugary, general lack of respect for property and persons, and you have the formula for acting out with violence as an acceptable means of expression. As for me, I’m not so afraid of someone breaking into my house and threatening my family, as I am some idiot deciding the attendant at the gas station didn’t give him the proper respect when he asked for a receipt and decided the appropriate reaction is go home get his “Zombie Killer Shotgun”, come back to the gas station and shoot everyone in sight.

THAT’s WHY WE WANT CCW PERMITS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You say “If someone had a CCW they could have stopped him”. MAYBE….., but the real problem is this; we’ve got some 30 year old, video game playing, pot smoking moron who lives with his parents who was told all his life that he is special and the reason why he isn’t a billionaire (fill in the blank) is because other people are keeping him down, and he took his Christmas money from Grandma and bought himself a shotgun to be ready for the “ZOMBIE apocalypse”. Here’s where I am separating from the no restrictions crowd. The fact is people like my “Zombie Killer” I described above are more and more common, and our culture accepts these people and in many cases idolizes them (their behavior). Will putting draconian restrictions on firearm ownership stop the violence? Absolutely not, but there will never be a Politian that will tell their constituents that they need to grow up. In fact government wants more “Zombie Killers”. Taking care of them or “protecting US from them” gives Government more power, and they like that. The way our country is at this current stage, our only means (in the short term) is to do everything possible to make it as difficult as possible for him to get Firearm.

We were given a tremendous gift by GOD and spelled out by our forefathers, our freedom. With that there were fundamental responsibilities we needed to take upon ourselves to maintain it. They even spelled out exactly what our most basic freedoms are, BUT look what we have done with it. I understand that everyone reading this post is a responsible, honest gun owner and probably a fine upstanding citizen. Unfortunately the sort we associate with in our lives are a relatively small group compared to the greater culture. Our country as a whole has lost what made the USA great to begin with; self-restraint, personal responsibility and honor. Again, I am talking about the greater masses, not YOU fine Gentlemen/ Ladies, but you (we) are a small minority in this country. And, that is another thing we have lost – the aspiration to be true Gentlemen/Ladies, but that is a whole other rant.

I Guess what I am really saying is we cannot have a free society where people can freely own Firearms when society as a whole cannot (will not) take responsibility for its own actions. Worst of all this is not something we can reverse easily. In fact I would say we can’t reverse it at all. The flood gates are open, the cats out of the bag, the eggs been laid………………
Maybe in another generation or two, we’ll have another group of people willing to throw off tyranny, and again live Free with Honor and Responsibility. Until then, WE cannot be trusted with the Awesome responsibility of freedom, or more directly with the Right to Bear Arms. It breaks my heart to say………Its time to throw in the towel. No logical argument against gun control can be won in an Illogical society.

Very good post with a lot of truth in it. I don't know if things are as hopeless as you portray it but the reality is this: We cannot allow these horrific crimes to continue. Whatever it takes....Bill

Crickets-- I can somewhat understand where you are at, but we cannot give up and let the ship sink. Taking on a little water does not mean the end. Most of the people of this country are good , God loving people. When one nut case comes along and screws things up, we cant stop fighting for our freedoms.

There is a strong case to be brought forward for banning of video games and divorce before banning of guns.

Why is it that you do not see alcohol advertised on TV or radio anymore. The same goes for smoking on TV or ads on the radio. Well, our thoughts are that this type of behavior is transmitted to the young minds that could influance them into drinking or smoking.

For years we have heard that porno will lead to rape and the degrigation of women, yet for the past 50 years movies and vidio games have become more and more violent.

I watched my nephews 12 year old son play a war game ( told me it's the hotest war game out now ) on Thankgiving day for 4 hours. Linked to other players around the world. Assult rifles that shoot full auto and the blood and guts are all there.

We have all those lib actors in Hollywood that are anti gun and yet make their entire living with a gun in their hand killing people for entertainment. I would bet not one would give up his or her acting in movies such as that, and yet they say guns are the problem and we must give our up.

I say, if you are that set in your ways about guns then don't star in any movies that have a gun related agenda.

When the government makes it a crime to show the types of violent movies and vidio games that oue children play and watch for hours, as they have for porno on TV maybe, just maybe we will get back to reality.

I agree with a lot you say but over 200 million guns in the USA killed no one this week.

One nut case , I hope, will not change one of the rights we have left.

Crickets: I can understand your feeling. But do you really think 200 million people (FBI estimated) are going to give up there 350 million guns (FBI estimated) because of a couple of wacko's that should have been locked up in an institution when they were eight years old. 200 millions gun owners did not kill any of those poor kids. One wacko did who killed his mother and took her guns did.

I think without a doubt that any measures taken towards gun control is a false attempt at solving the real issues. In my opinion it is not even a band-aid for the problem. It would only be a "feel good" thing for politicians and law makers. The problem wouldn't go away!

Heck no it wouldn't go away. If they ban them all the real problem will still exist. A gentleman on this very forum just told the story of his mentally ill son. Although it was his son and they were aware of his problems, they were helpless from doing anything because of the system and his age. It took a crime to get his son help. That is unfortunate.

I am so very glad that "Crickets" made his post and he feels that he has accomplished his own personal goal of getting this off his chest.

I am also so very glad that our forefathers did not cave into other colonists
fears. That they had the vision and courage to carry out open defiance against
oppressive government bodies to secure our freedom. They sacrificed their lives
for us as many after have. Based on that I'm not willing to give up my freedoms or arms that would reduce me to being a subject rather than citizen.
That freedom meant everything to those that have sacrificed and still does to many of us.

    Throw in the towel? Quit?

    NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm an individual that has been raised to be strong. I will remain strong even when you try to secure my arms, my freedom from me, you will also pay with your life.

I'm most thankful that the family and mentors I've been exposed to have taught me to remain true to my convictions. It is better to die on your feet than live on your knees.

Cricket.....you have given in and you shall reap what you have sewn.

All of that may be true, but this singular fact remains. These shooters can be stopped. The people who are with the kids every day must step up to the plate and insist they will no longer sit by and be helpless victims and watch their kids be slaughtered. Until the teachers and staff demand the right to be the instant first line of defense and have the arms and training to do it nothing is going to change. That means a wholesale change of mindset on the part of a lot of leftist teacher types, and this is the fulcrum on which their decision will turn: Do they love the children enough to change their minds about gun use, or is their leftist ideology so important to them that it is acceptable for more children to die rather than they leave their leftist comfort zone.

    It is just that simple.

I'll give up my armed security when all the wealthy and powerful liberals give up theirs, including Obama.

I believe my life is worth as much as theirs.

Yes, my post is rather defeatist. This atrocity pushed me over the edge. In re reading the post I think Remdog1187 is right, I just needed to get some dark thoughts off my chest, and that is what I was doing. I am sure I really don't feel like I need to "throw in the towel". Sometimes it seems so futile to keep arguing logical points when I know 95% of the people out there are so completely clueless to what this nation is about. I know this was the act of some mentally deranged kid. What puts me over is the asinine discussion that follows events like this. What bothers me the most is that the majority of the discourse talks about what our federal overlords are going to do or not going to do, when the discussion should be what our states and counties are going to do to resist the upcoming tyranny. I meant no disrespect to those of you have fought so bravely for this country, in implying (out right stating) that all is lost. A moment of despair. will rise again tomorrow to fight another day. BUT i will not be fighting for just for "Gun Rights", I still feel that is the least of our worries. Instead I will fight to raise my children with Honor and Respect for the liberty which it rightfully theirs. I will lead by example of what a Father should be. I will teach my children to be self sufficient and courageous in the face of evil. I will teach them that what they see in the mass culture around them is NOT what life should be.

    That is all, good night.
