Saw this on another board,,,,VERY INTERESTING,,,,bet THEY won't accept the truth,,,,Society gone amuck!!!!!!

I hate guns. They terrify me. I have never owned one and never will.

I have little sympathy for the gun culture or the gun lobby. Both seem crass and crude. If I had my way, guns would not exist. But - and this but is the size of a Liberal grant - we do not live in a perfect world and I am prepared to admit that reality sometimes stings.

More than this, the relative lack of gun control legislation in the United States had nothing, absolutely nothing, to do with a 6-year-old in Michigan shooting another child to death. Nor had it anything to do with other child killings, with murders by street gangs, with any of the shootings in Canada.

Indeed, gun control is one of the great misnomers of modern times. We cannot control guns and we don't have to either. What we have to control is the decaying social fabric of North America and our headlong rush into an ethical vacuum.

Good God, this one isn't rocket science. A few fundamentals:

Guns are extraordinarily common in Canadian and American rural communities, where the crime rates are lower than anywhere else in either country. Farm kids shoot from an early age and are in the company of firearms before they can walk. Yet there are hardly any violent rampages and so-called accidental discharges of weapons.

Guns have existed in very large numbers for more than two centuries. They were common among ordinary families from the 1740s. Children did not kill with them. After 1945 Canada was flooded with handguns brought home from Europe and Asia by soldiers. Teachers of the time report of half of the class bringing dad's shooter to school. These were military weapons, deadly and efficient.

Were there mass slaughters? Of course not. But according to some zealots, it's all about registration. So just who are these people so anxious to tell us what to do and how to do it?

Curiously enough, the activists campaigning for draconian gun control seem to be the same activists who are calling for a lower age of sexual consent, for more children's rights, for increased funding of daycare rather than support for families, for a wholesale dismantling of the society that has served us so well for so long.

If you doubt me, just take a look. It is an almost infallible rule that the more permissive a person is on social and moral issues the more in favour they are of strict gun control. Coincidence?

Please. It is not that such people are sinister, simply that they are wrong. Dangerously wrong. Ignore the disease, misinterpret the diagnoses and then prescribe the wrong medicine.

It's too late for that nonsense now. The patient is dying and we have to operate fast. As for the ailments, they should be obvious.

Single-parent families and the absence of male authority figures. Parents never seeing their kids because both are working and junior is parented by the television. Teachers emasculated and unable to chastise children who instead revel in their thuggery. An obsession with the self-esteem of kids who in fact scream for boundaries and borders.

Endless discussions about children's feelings, encouraging them to act out the slightest whim. Constant attacks on the virtues of family, chastity, faith, respect, order and tradition. TV that deadens the mind and the sensibilities with graphic violence, grotesque pornography and vacuous pop videos, and then hosts long discussions wondering why kids are going wrong.

I want, I need, I must have, I know, I am, I rule, I'm cool, I'm everything. You're nothing, you're not me, you don't understand, you suck, you don't matter. And I'm the centre of the universe. I know it because I feel it and nobody dares tell me otherwise.

Laugh when Jimmy uses obscene language, believe that Susan can do no wrong even when the cop and the teacher tell you otherwise, decide that your "self-fulfillment" in some job is more important than Jake seeing his mother when he comes home from school, and say you can't control what Brittany watches on television when you haven't even tried.

It ain't about guns, it's about you. And you, and you. Don't blame mechanics for your own madness.

This is an excellent article. It was written in 2000.

Another good read by Sun Publications is the recent article above (click on URL).

    FROM THE NRA!!!

    Because Barack Obama's campaign promise
not to take away our guns is a LIE.

He's not even in office, yet he's fired the opening salvos in a war against the future of the Second Amendment, our hunting and shooting traditions, and YOU.

Obama's FIRST attack on YOU: Appointing Illinois Congressman Rahm Emanuel to be White House Chief of Staff. In Congress, Emanuel earned an "F" rating from NRA, and while working in the Clinton Administration, he was known as the "point man on gun control." He is an avowed enemy of the Second Amendment and will wield enormous power in the battle for the future of our firearm freedoms.

Obama's SECOND attack on YOU: If Hillary Clinton is confirmed as Secretary of State, she'll rip the Second Amendment right out of the Bill of Rights. She'll be our nation's top diplomat with the power to determine whether the United Nations will pass, and Obama will sign, a global gun ban treaty that will surrender our Second Amendment rights and our national sovereignty.

Obama's THIRD attack on YOU: Nominating ex-Senator and former Majority Leader Tom Daschle-an avowed enemy of NRA-to be Secretary of Health and Human Services. NRA was responsible for defeating Daschle when he ran in South Dakota for re-election to the Senate. If Daschle is confirmed, he could hold the ultimate power to declare guns a "public health menace" and regulate away our essential liberties.

Obama's FOURTH attack on YOU: Nominating Eric Holder to be Attorney General. As former Assistant Attorney General, Holder was a key architect and vocal advocate for the Clinton era's sweeping gun ban agenda. He supported national handgun licensing, mandatory trigger locks, and ending gun shows as we know them.

Just recently, Holder opposed the District of Columbia's Heller decision that declared the Second Amendment an individual right. Holder also called for reviving the Clinton gun bans and, as Attorney General, would fight in court to prevent the landmark Heller decision from being made applicable to state and local governments.

Worst of all, if Holder is confirmed as the nation's top law-enforcement officer, he would control BATFE and wield enormous power to harass gun owners and sue America's arms makers out of existence.

Obama's FIFTH attack on YOU: In the job application for the Obama Administration, he made it clear that gun owners are second-class citizens and told 80 million gun owners not to even bother applying for a job. In the "White House Personnel Data Questionnaire" he asked:

"Do you or any members of your immediate family own a gun? If so, provide
complete ownership and registration information. Has the registration ever
lapsed? Please also describe how and by whom it is used and whether it has
been the cause of any personal injuries or property damage."

This chilling notice to gun owners-that they are not welcome to serve in his Administration-shows the deep hostility for Americans' Second Amendment Freedoms that Obama and his Administration have in their hearts.

On its face, that question endorses gun registration-a mandate in only five states in our nation-and buys into the anti-gun premise that firearms are inherently dangerous and gun owners are prone to misusing them.

That's an outrageous mindset, especially for the President-elect whose sworn duty will be to uphold the U.S. Constitution, including our right to keep and bear arms.

Obama CLEARLY wants to make gun registration the law of the land.

First for employees under his control...AND THEN FOR YOU.

Working with a Congress dominated by gun haters like Nancy Pelosi, Dianne Feinstein, John Conyers, Henry Waxman, and Charles Schumer!!!

Rubbing salt in gun owner wounds is the Brady Campaign, which just issued a completely bogus poll claiming that two-thirds of the Americans-including 60% of all gun owners-favor gun registration, licensing of firearm owners, and other sweeping restrictions on our firearm freedoms!

Add it all up and you have the potential
for a Second Amendment disaster that's unlike
any other NRA members have ever battled.

That's why we need the strongest possible commitment from EVERY NRA member.

And some of you don't understand why I think our country is in DISTRESS?

You think, "Oh, that can't happen to US. Our government would NEVER try and change or cut away at the 2nd Amendment."

WAIT, it's going to get worse. NEVER let them get even get ONE new bill passed without a fight. I know it takes some effort. We have to take the time and call and write our reps to let them know that we ARE out here and we VOTE.

Most of them are so weak they will vote anyway the loudest voice wants them to. They will vote AGAINST any new bans on our weapons or taxes on our ammo if we let them know that is what we want them to do. THEY WORK FOR US. And they all want to get reelected. Our silence is what helps the liberals get what THEY want. They see this as their chance, they "hope" to "change" all things they think are "wrong" with our country. In THEIR eyes, that is.

Hope, Change, Wrong. Pretty much sounds like obamas platform to me.

I agree, we must all make an effort by writing, calling, and visiting our elected officials. Let them know how you feel. Doing nothing results in nothing positive.

Also, start inviting your friends to the club and teaching them how to shoot. If people have never touched a gun, they won't understand where we are coming from.

Treat yourself to a great Christmas gift, an NRA membership. Now, most of all, our Second Amendment rights are at greater risk. Look for banning lead, as an example, in ammunition as a guise, such as claiming it's an environment pollutant, endangers the safety of users, and any other low-life methodology to infringe on your rights. A frontal attack of just banning guns is not always the case but many other methods of accumulated restrictions will affect our shooting sports. As Obama puts it: He's for resonable restrictions.. what does that represent??? Be prepared to find out. And by the way, George Soros is out there supporting anti-gun causes; friends of a feather flock together. Darrell

IMO, the first article overlooks one important point. Families and parents are stressed to earn a decent living for their children; often, it is not entirely about "fulfillment", but about just getting the basics, including food on the table. Sure there are exceptions, but in many ways, this is now a more difficult world for all than the 1950's. The streses lead to divorce, drinking, drug taking, etc. Support systems are scattered (extended family, spiritual refuge such as a local church, community activity, 4H, scouting etc.) and life is, in many ways, more alienating and more competitive. These streses invariably can lead to more violence; verbal and physical.

Perhaps one small way we can partially reverse this trend is to be conscious and helpful within our communities and towards our neighbors and towards others. Small acts of support and kindness can go a long ways to decreasing anger. Note the support shown to many others at this website, a virtual community if you will...support given in terms of advice, sympathy during bad situations, and people trusting and bending over backwards, in some cases, to source needed parts and equipment. We have lost too much of that in the non virtual world. Increase anger and frustration, one incrases violence.

An economic improvement, IMHO, would go a long ways to helping to reverse the trend and...an encouragement to all of us to continually re-examine tune our values and actions.

Chango2,,,,a couple of economic improvements would be to STOP borrowing the future,,,,this has a lot to do with the fact that both have to work to make ends meet,,,,then when both have a good job,,,,taxes take a huge chunk,,,,my wife's income the last 4 years paid our IRS bill!!!!!!!!!!!

We should also stop making divorce so easy and exciting,,,,too many tv shows depicting glamour in divorce,,,,human degradation is also RAMPANT,,,,from pornography,,,,to homosexuality,,,,abortion,,,,beastality,,,,etc. The lack of promotion of the "traditional family" is leading to a lot of this.

Beastiality? I believe that cruelty to animals is a felony. In one of his films, Clint Eastwood alluded to that in reference to a mean spirited female supervisor. Cracked me up...now what was that movie?

Pornography? If there is a big crackdown on porn, the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles would be in dire economic straits since Lockheed Aircraft, Skunk Works, etc. pulled the plug.

Abortion? I think that in many cases, the pro would be anti in some extreme dircumstances and vice versa.

Homosexuality? I couldn't care less what people do with whatever in private as long as children or animals are not involved.

Divorce? Agreed, people, in too many cases, take marriage too lightly, as do many who have children for their sense of self-esteem. See Abortion, above.

Trap and Skeet? See Pornography, above. If porn. goes into a bad economic slump, maybe there will be room for at least one new trap and skeet club in the San Fernando Valley.

And this is the world according to my jostled mind this early pm.

Chango, ts.com is much more than a virtual community. Many of us here know each other personally and shoot with each other.

I guess for some it is a virtual community, but not many of us.
