Lest our deep thinking political wunderkind Jamesquinn conclude that all the recent Obambi criticism is coming from Limbaugh, Hannity, and the other usual conservative suspects, he might want to read the lastest from syndicated columnist Camille Paglia titled, “A Rocky First Few Weeks”.

For those unfamiliar with her, Ms. Paglia is an elitist member of the intelligentsia. A former best selling author, she teaches and writes on a wide variety of social issues. Self described as a dissident feminist and registered democrat, Ms. Paglia is an atheist and lesbian. She has been described as embracing fetishism, porn, prostitution, and homosexuality among other things. Some have suggested she has a Libertarian streak but she voted for Ralph Nader in 2000, Slick Willie, and supported Obambi in the 2008 election. That makes her a different kind of Libertarian than I’ve ever met, but I digress….

Her current column starts with a flowery (but accurate) description of proposed democrat spending under the Porkulus bill. She later slams the liberals’ notion of instituting the horribly misnamed “Fairness Doctrine” whose sole purpose is to silence conservative talk radio. However, I digress again…

My point, read her column. The temp in Hell dropped another degree.

    jakearoo and all:

Sorry for the oversite. I think the link above will get you there.

As an aside, one can access a long list of syndicated columnists (something like 100 of them) from the Drudge Report website. Opinions run the gamut from one extreme to the other and everything in between. If for whatever reason, the link doesn't work, you can find Ms. Paglia's offerings there.

Isn't this what Bush caught hell for nearly daily for the last 5 years? What a bunch of hypocrites.

"By Spencer Ackerman 2/11/09 11:22 AM
Last week, CIA Director-designate appeared to argue that certain Al Qaeda detainees were too dangerous to stand trial — something that threw civil libertarians for a loop, given the recent executive orders from the Obama administration ordering the closure of Guantanamo Bay, the CIA’s secret prisons and a thorough review of future detention policy. Now it looks like Panetta has company. At her confirmation hearing yesterday, Elena Kagan, the administration’s nominee to be solicitor general, made a similar point, according to the Los Angeles Times:

Harvard Law Dean Elena Kagan, President Obama’s choice to represent his administration before the Supreme Court, told a key Republican senator Tuesday that she believed the government could hold suspected terrorists without trial as war prisoners.

Apparently, this came in response to an exchange with Sen. Lindsay Graham (R-S.C.), in which Graham asked Kagan to react to a quote from Attorney General Eric Holder’s confirmation last month that our own intrepid Kate Klonick noted:

I don’t think there’s any question that we are at war, and I think, to be honest, I think our nation didn’t realize that we were at war when in fact we were. When I look back at the 90s and Tanzania embassy bombings, the bombing of the Cole, I think we as a nation should have realized that at that point we were at war. We should not have waited until September 11th, 2001 to make that determination.

As Kate wrote, the implications of the statement are somewhat ambiguous. Also ambiguous is what Kagan meant: do battlefield captures in a war without a clear endpoint equate to total military discretion over the length of a person’s detention? And if that isn’t enough ambiguity, recall that Kagan, as solicitor general, won’t be a formal part of a the forthcoming administration review on detention policy. Still, it appears like it’s not just Panetta who thinks there’s something to the idea of a class of detainees who won’t face trial."

Just for fun, let's assume Panetta and Kagan said (and really believe) that some Al Qaeda detainees at Gitmo are too dangerous for trial. It doesn't matter. Fair or not, Dubya got hammered by the left for holding these guys without charges, a trial, and full due process. Dubya and his administration lost that battle.

IMO it was nonsense then and remains so today. These guys didn't steal a car. They didn't rob a liquor store. They didn't embezzel funds from a bank. They're not criminals in any meaningful sense of the word.

Call them what you want - terrorists, POWs, enemy combatants, it doesn't matter. These are the fun loving pranksters who were amazed to discover cell phones have uses other than setting off roadside bombs. Their families have grown opium poppies for twenty generations but have moral objections to beer. They wipe their butts with a bare left hand but think bacon is "unclean".

Well... the lefties insisted these b@st@rds should get a trial. For better or worse Obambi now gets to keep his campaign promise and put them on trial... or turn them loose.

What makes me think tax payers will be paying their legal fees?? And... assuming some get convicted (of what I can't imagine), I wonder how long it will be before some liberal judge turns some loose because of prison overcrowding or lets them out on parol.

    Stay tuned...

"... like this lady?" Not so much actually, LOL.

From the very beginning of the campaign, conservatives were sounding alarms about Obambi. The left leaning media, that is to say nearly all the media, spent the entire campaign shilling for and fawning all over him.

It isn't hard to find Obambi critics among conservatives and those whose demographic description includes the shooting sports. I offered Ms. Paglia as a recent critic from the leftist media. Her personal demographic profile is just a wee bit different from the average person hanging around ts.c.

As an aside, part of what she wrote was that Obambi has done relatively ok in his first few weeks except for appointing all the tax cheats and the grotesque porkulus bill. If I were chatting with her, I'd point out that the ONLY thing Obambi has done in his first few weeks is appoint tax cheats and cheerlead for the passage of the democrats' spending debacle.
