This South Rises Again -- This Time For Liberty!

The Supreme Court is hearing the case of McDonald v. Chicago, where the narrow question is whether the Second Amendment applies to the States. Because the Bill of Rights originally appied only to limit the Federal Government, the broad question is whether the 14th Amendment made the Bill of Rights applicable to the States.

Liberals are predictably against having the Bill of Rights apply to them.

HOWEVER, every Southern State that seceded from the Union during the Civil War (SC, MS, FL, AL, GA, LA, TX, VA, AR, NC, TN) has signed on to a brief in favor of having the Bill of Rights apply to the States. Seems like the Southern States know full well what the 14th Amendment was meant to do, including without limitation giving freed slaves the right keep and bear arms!

The South has risen, this time for Liberty, and the North should be ashamed for not joining them.

    Lou

Massachusetts repressive gun laws are based on the belief that the citizens do not have a 2ND amendment right. Not surprisingly, the powers that be are claiming that the 14TH amendment does not apply to the state. Try using that arguement against assembly, speach, the press, etc...

Don't get your point. This is hardly a South "has risen" thing. As you can clearly see, the majority of states are in support.

The point is that the States which are derided by the Liberals as being provincial and behind the times and retaining the racist prejudices of the past are actually the ones at the forefront of the battle to preserve, protect and promote Liberty.

The deep south was virtually 100% Democrat for decades. The Dems lost their grip on the south only when religious fundamentalists decided to get political and take over in the 80s.

Don't think for a minute that the Democrats don't want Dixie back.

Bigots abound, prejudice prevails, ignorance a blight everywhere--north and south.

There are really only two regions of the country where a conservative can't get elected. The Northeast and the West Coast. It is getting harder and harder in the Midwest. This country still has a conservative core but it is shrinking each election as more Americans want to sell out their freedom for socialism.

See the new movie "The Blind Side" to see one tough conservative Southern lady (played by Sandra Bullock) face down some gang-bangers with the announcement she is an NRA member and is "packing heat".

    Good flick.

    highflyer,

The current administration is trying to keep us in a depression/resession so we'll have no other choice but to be dependant on government for everything. That's the quickest was to get socialism into our country. And don't think for a minute this isn't their hidden agenda. Look around. Power grap pure and simple.

Everybody's having a bad year except for Wall St. Main St is just about DOA.

I assume that you mean that the South seceded over slavery/ no liberty for slaves. This is not so, slavery was a peripheral issue, in fact it was not viably efficient manner in which to produce a product. The South desperately wanted to find a way out of slavery in its future. It was a horrible system morally and also expensive for the slave holders. What was in question was state's rights as being dictated by a northern controlled central government (Washington). The north wanted an expensive cross country railroad system which the south neither wanted or needed because of its network of rivers. Just as today we have a central government on the verge of being out of control.

I did not mean to opine on why the SOuth seceded. I only meant to mention that the States which seceded then are now backing the application of the Bill of Rights to the States.

    Who would have thunk it?

I am not a historian, but I understand that there is some controversy over whether Missouri did or did not secede.

Missouri did, however, sign on in the McDonald Amicus Brief to uphold the 14th Amendment and the Bill of Rights.
