"short sweet and to the point!!

    Starner Jones, MD

This should be on the front page of every newspaper in America —in large bold letters. This was a letter to the editor on August 29, 2009 in a Jackson, MS newspaper.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Dear Sirs:

"During my last night's shift in the ER, I had the pleasure of evaluating a patient with a shiny new gold tooth, multiple elaborate tattoos, a very expensive brand of tennis shoes and a new cellular telephone equipped with her favorite R&B tune for a ringtone. Glancing over the chart, one could not help noticing her payer status: Medicaid. She smokes more than one costly pack of cigarettes every day and, somehow, still has money to buy beer.

And our Congress expects me to pay for this woman's health care? Our nation's health care crisis is not a shortage of quality hospitals, doctors or nurses. It is a crisis of culture— a culture in which it is perfectly acceptable to spend money on vices while refusing to take care of one's self or, heaven forbid, purchase health insurance. A culture that thinks "I can do whatever I want to because someone else will always take care of me". Life is really not that hard. Most of us reap what we sow.

    Don't you agree?

The real problem is - the Democraps want everyone to have the same regardless of the effort applied. That is socialism at it best. We have got to get them out of congress and getting them out will be tough. There are more takers than givers and the takers are going to vote in a manner that gives them the most.

A quote i see often is from one of our early founders indicating that a government can only survive until the population figure out they can vote themselves all of the government assistance they want. Once the assistance starts in earnest the government will go broke. Does this look like what is happening now?

The Pilgrims tried it in 1620. All the food was in a common storehouse. Slackers soon took their share, and there was not enough for all.

Their survival was in doubt until they adopted the motto "if you don't work, you don't eat".

We could learn from the Pilgrims.

The problem with health care is that we pay these people's bills anyway.

Health care as envisioned by the libs, works like the 'Obama Special' at McDonalds... Order anything you want. The kids in line behind you are getting stuck with the tab.

    The problem with

This happened at my doctor's office 4 or 5 years ago. I had an early morning appointment and when I pulled into his parking lot there was only 1 other car parked out front. The nurses and staff park in the back. The car was a relative new vehicle, less than 2 years old my guess.

There was only 1 other person in the waiting room. I'm assuming the car belonged to the other party in the waiting room. The other party was a woman in her early to mid 20s. She had green and orange hair, rings in her nose, eyebrow, tattos, etc... She had a new cell phone, and was yapping away on it. Well anyway she got called into the business managers office and it was right next to where I was sitting. Anyway the manager told this woman that the doctor said this would be her last visit, unless she at least paid something. The business manager asked if she could just pay $10, or just a little something.

Well anyway the woman came out sat back down in the waiting room and called everybody on her cell phone and started ranting about doctors and the rotten medical system we have in this country.

How dare they expect her to pay anything for her own medical care. She has got to use her money for new cars, cell phones, rings in the nose, etc. I wonder if her tattoo artist worked for free?

Found out later from the girl at the front desk that the car out front did belong to tattoo woman.

    It's over for this country.

Well, I'm the first one to say that topics like this shouldn't be on this forum, but I will hereby change my mind forever.

This thread truly says it like it is.

I've been in healthcare (now retired) for 17 years and the people here are truly telling it like it is. Working in an Emergency Room is truly an education.

I don't have an easy answer, but the letters here ARE stating the problem.

Aargh, I've got to stop, my BP is starting to peak...

It is the slacker attitude that so many people have. I hate whiners.
