Wonder what the fine for this would be?????? I've done a couple of short 170 mph runs on the freeway and it was pretty intense. I can't imagine 200+. Jim

I'd like to catch one of you idiots doing that! How stupid to risk your own life and that of other innocent people!

Many years ago when I lived in England a British NCO had a Lamborgini and I would go to London with him to party. It was never very unusual to do 160 and sometimes cars coming up behind up would start flashing their lights to tell us to move over and we were running 160. Occasionally when my buddy was drunk I would drive us home and even though I wanted to, I never opened it up. Tops for me on a bike is 150 on my son's Honda and 160 back in 1970 in my now, brother-in-laws 440 R/T. Unfortunately at 60 I still love speed. I've sold my drag cars and don't run round track anymore either. With a super chip top end on my F150 is 135MPH. Jackie B.

This is a scenario played out about once per week around Phoenix!!! Even the motorcycles hit around 135 to 150mph!!!

In fairness though,,,The phoenix loops are built for speed!!! The 101,,the 202,,these are "autobaun" style roads,,,they are rubberized asphalt,,quite and fast,,,plus the car was also built for speed with "wind tunnel effect" design,,,in other words,,,the faster you go,,,the harder the wind resistance pushes the front end of the car down on the pavement,,,,Roads like the 60 or the Superstition freeway are 6 and 7 lanes wide each direction,,,straight as an arrow for miles,,and will soon be upwards of 10 lanes ech direction!!!

200mph is a bit fast though,,,but cruising at 120 would be do-able if the drivers were matched with the speed involved,,unfortunatly,,they are not...

Although I've hit 150 many times in Mustangs raced on the track and on deserted country interstates, I did try 175 once in a "for sale" V12 Ferrari on an Ohio freeway. 175 for about 15 seconds was enough. The difference between 150 and 175 felt like about 60mph more, not 25! You can get a little tunnel-vision at 175 even on something as wide as an interstate. I thought I would like to try 200 once before I die, but not many "available" cars will do that, and though I always thought I was fearless, 200mph might scare the hell out of me!

I took many a person for a ride in my 1975 911S to well over 150MPH. Once, in a friends orginal AC Cobra about 1969 on Hy 99 in California about 1 am, the speedomter claimed we were over 200mph on a 220mph gauge. True or false? But, man, it was fast.

shotgun410: False. No AC Cobra (unless it was a Daytona Coupe) could generate enough power to over their terrible aerodynamics. Plus anything over about 130 created so much wind turbulence in the cockpit of the roadster, that a full-face helmet was practically mandatory in those cars.

If you want to feel safe at 200 mph, do it in a Cessna 210 Turbo.

code5coupe: could have been, I don't recall what model he owned, but his family owned Gallo Wines. However I do remember seeing the speedo and it said 220mph on the dash. Then when I looked over as the light poles flashed by, the speedo was reading a little over 200mph. I don't think it was KPH because, it was a lot faster than my 911S, at 150mph. Then of course, I have to admit to using some strange compounds back in those days.

Here is a true story a few years ago my friend was a county deputy and he said every once in awhile he owuld hear about something being clocled at over 150 m.p.h. plus at night time but the state troopers didn't know what it was but as it turned out it was a doctor that would make frequent trips from Nashville TN back to Paducah KY area running with no head lights and using night vision equipment they finally caught him and it was some sort of lambuginia type of car.

It is a wonder that he didn't crash into some one or even a deer anyway if I can find the story on it I will post it later.

We have pot hole that would eat both of those cars. I94 is full of them. Notice they drove in the middle on the white line to avoid the cracks in the pavement. At one time the Vette bottomed out, he hit a pot hole that some can fish in. Every bridge here in MI has plywood and 2x4's under it to catch falling concrete.

In the old days this would have been fun but today the law has a different point of view.

I'm not sure how to place in the message area, so just mash on the link above.
