Ok gents, it's officially a concern. I had heard in a few places that .45 cal ammo was hard to get, but recently after having checked, it's not hard at all. It's impossible. Wal-Mart, the local in-door shooting venue, Gander Mountain and Dicks. They all have bare shelves. Even the guy selling Mac-10's from the trunk of his '74 Buick is out.

I can just about guess all of the reasons, O'Bama, the Chinese and the lead, mass hysteria about the invading hoards of hispanics with all thier swine flu. I am not sure. One thing I am sure of is that there is little to no .45 ammo out there. Oh, and if you are lucky to find a factory sealed box of nice new shiny brass .45's there is a mechanical arm that comes out of the box and reaches around you for your wallet. MADNESS I tell you. Let's revolt..... Let's have a tea party !!!!

What in the heck is going on ?? When and where are we going to calm down to a level of civility and stop panic purchasing these things. It's a cyclical issue that is driving the prices up due to availiblity. We are doing this to ourselves.........

    What are your thoughts ??

Start thinking about reloading, primers are available if you look hard enough.

    Insure guy:

Wal mart in San Antonio had pistol ammo two weeks ago. I got 9m/m, 40, and 45. They had a two box per cal. limit. The supply went pretty fast, but sporting goods clerk said they expected another shipment in about two weeks.
At last week end's gun show in Phoenix, there was unlimited supply of all lsrge cal pistol ammo, plus rifle ammo in 223, 308 plus hunting cals. Word I got from dealers at the show is that the crunch is lessening. My observations, GEG.

At the end of the night.. the old barmaid looks good.. I'm seeing Wolfe large pistol brimers bringing $85.00 per thousand.. up from the $18.00 they use to be.. i'd gladly give $30.00 a thousand.. just for play ammo.. but that's just as hard to find as shot for $20.00 a bag.. when it went up to $40.00 or more.. Hopefully the prices will come down.. All Good.. Mike

If you have a WalMart close by, just keep stopping in and check. Thats what I did, and one morning they had two boxes of 380 ACP and I purchased them. They will not call, but they do get some in periodically. You have to be there when they have some, it doesn't last long.

The best deal is buying it from private parties. One state gun forum I'm on there is a very active ammunitions for sale forum, .45 offerings pop up are rare compared to a lot of others, but it can be had. One guy just posted 100 round boxes of Rem UMC .45 at $55 per box. I bought a large amount of .223 the other day from a guy. When asked why he was selling off his .223 stash, he said he was using the money for .45, when he could find it. Its out there, you just have to decide if you want to pay for it or not. None of my stores around here have .223, but I've found a ton of it via private party.

Not to brag, but I bought 20 boxes of .45 Rem. green box ammo about 2 1/2 - 3 years ago for $7.99 a box of 50. The Company I had worked for were buying contracts on the world market on brass & copper. I figured take some advice and stock up. Too bad I didn't work for Freddie or Fannie, I wouldn't be crying over my 401(k). Oh well, win some, lose some. BT-100dc

Bought a huge pile of all kinds of ammo from an estate a year and a half ago...at least fifteen to twenty boxes of virtually every size handgun round. Let my buddies have it at my cost, just to help out the guy handling the estate. I should have kept it as I could make about ten times today what I let it go for.

I'm glad we got a deal, and I'm happy my buddies have a good supply. I wish we could get some for the shop where I work part time. All we've gotten in the past two weeks is a case of PMC 223. No 9, 38, 357, 40, 44, or 45. No primers.

Someone is lying to us...whether it is the ammo makers or the distributors. Some are also gouging the heck out of us..especially the duck hills and richards and so on where they charge 2X the suggested retail. I hope we all remember them when the shortage ends and they can choke on their inventory.

The problem is to many people are hoarding ammunition and primers. Their
scared of Obama and what he might do. I know people sitting on 20 -30,000
rounds of 9mm and .45 When the scare subsides, supply will get back to
normal but I'm not sure prices ever will.

I think it's what Obama, Pelosi & Reid WILL DO, not might do. You can count on it. Now, I've always been an optimist. BT-100dc

Some folks are finding,,,,buying all they can,,,,and going to the gun shows and selling for 2X going price. If you can find mail order, buy it and just wait. I got some through Cabela's that way.
