Alf, I still remember all those people telling me that if I didn't like the extra cost and long drive to Sparta to just stay home. Now it's costing them some extra money to shoot new shells and they're having a cow. Hypocrits.

Best thing that ever happened was the moce to sparta. When the grand was in vandalia i spent app $1000 just to go the the uh bars for guys where they have the nice women dancing just for you. Now there is nothing like that close to sparta (unless i just havent found them yet) so now i can afford the new shells.

The ATA website has a link to a brochure from the Tourism Bureau of Southwestern Illinois. The brochure is a fountain of information for visitors to the Metro East* region including lodging, dining, shopping, entertainment, and attractions.

You WON'T find Brooklyn, IL. listed anywhere on that link.

According to Mapquest, Brooklyn, Il. is approximately 56 miles and a little over an hour's drive from Sparta - a little closer from the WSRC. Brooklyn has all the attributes of East St. Louis without East St. Louis' charm. It does have an abundance of entertainment that involves rolled up dollar bills.

Brooklyn sits pretty much in the middle of a blighted urban area largely populated by criminals and addicts. It is best avoided by everyone else.

    * Metro East is the name for that part of the greater St. Louis region located on the Illinois side of the Mississippi River.
