    Emergency powers??? Read it the government now has the powers to take eveything you have.

    Yeah, they've kinda had that power for a while now. Read the Patriot Act.

    The emergency powers act goes back more then 50 years, just been revised over the years by a few presidents.

    To be fair about it, this the Emergency Powers goes back to Roosevelt in 1939. It was used in WWII to enact such things as gasoline (and other strategic materials like rubber and chrome) rationing, the internment of many Japanese citizens, redirecting some industries into war production, and so forth. The Executive Order has been revised from time to time by a number of Presidents, including George Bush, but has not seriously been used by any to really take anything over. Obama is just the latest to revise and reissue this EO, but it could, of course, be abused if he so chose. Don't think any President should have such powers, without Congressional action first, but don't Congress has ever challenged this EO over the years.
