    Jack:

Not a bad theory, but its based on faulty assumptions of guilt.

Rotten Rod is innocent you see. He said so yesterday on tv. His lawyers have been saying so all week. In Crook County, that makes it UNANIMOUS!

According to Rod, this whole business is just a bunch of false accusations perpetrated by political enemies. Rotten Rod didn't specify who those enemies are but since neither of the Clinton's is running for anything, I suspect the vast right wing conspiracy.

Furthermore, if Fitzgerald takes this to trial, the case will get thrown out. Rod's mouth piece has declared all wire tap evidence as illegally obtained and thus inadmissible.

Since there's no term limit for the office of governor, my prediction is that the Crook County electorate (the dearly departed and buried dead plus the brain dead Dems) will elect him to a third term.

I'm not sure about this but won't Fitzgerald be gone in 2009? This is an appointed position AFIK. There is a 4 year term. they are Presidential appointments. Interim appointments to fill vacancies are done by the A.G.

It's going to look really stinky when Fitzgerald is replaced by Obama. And Illinois residents are going to be very unhappy.

"Oh, but I don't want to go about among mad people" said Alice.

"That's all right, we are all quite mad here anyway" said the Cheshire cat.

    Halfmile and All:

One can read basic details about U.S. Attorneys in Wikipedia under 'United States Attorney'. Following are a just a few of the germane details...

U.S. Attorneys a.k.a. Federal Prosecutors (FP's), are part of the U.S. Justice Department. There are 93 FP's in all. One represents each federal judicial district. Prominent among their responsibilities is acting as the chief prosecutor in criminal cases within their district.

FP's are appointed to four year terms by the president. Appointments are subject to confirmation by the senate. FP's are also subject to replacement by the president. However, unless or until a president acts, an incumbent FP continues to serve after his/her term expires.

It would apparently be within Obambi's purview to replace Fitzgerald - whether or not he has completed the four year term. Doing so would be an astonishingly stupid political move. Some media wag (more likely a bunch) would loudly point out that replacing Fitzgerald in the middle of Rotten Rod’s investigation and prosecution would NOT qualify as a "change we can trust".

But.... just for fun, let's assume Obambi replaces Fitzgerald. Or... let’s assume Fitzgerald is incapacitated next Monday by a catastrophic injury or sudden illness.

Either way, all the evidence remains.
-The famous tapes from wire and phone taps remain.
-Truck loads of subpoenaed hiring records (proof of illegal
hiring practices) sit in boxes awaiting upcoming trials.
-Convicted rotters like Ali Ata and Tony Rezko are still angling for
    reduced sentences.
-Bill Celini and John Harris are still desperate to cut deals prior to
    their convictions and sentencing.
-And... there remains a long list of unindicted players that will continue
to sing their little crooked hearts out regardless who serves as
the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois.

The bottom line? Obambi would be nuts to replace Fitzgerald in the middle of the current sh!t storm but if he does, the prosecutions will go on.

You may be right but A.G. Holder was appointed by and reports to Obambi. Except for interim appointments, FP's are hired and fired by the prez.

So assume Fitzpatrick gets replaced in an untimely manner by either Holder OR Obambi. Either act would be accurately seen as Obambi's decision. He alone would catch a world of spattering poop.

The free pass Obambi received during the campaign is showing cracks. The media has and continues to be all over Governor Dipstick's criminal misadventures. Obambi can't talk about anything without a reporter questioning involvement by him and his staffers with Rotten Rod and his staffers.

This story has been covered every day by virtually every outlet. It has legs and shows no sign of going away anytime soon. Not even the Golden One has the stones to be viewed as tampering with with this.

At least that's what the voices in my fantasy world are telling me.

He's going to go to jail. Maybe not for a long time, but he will go to jail! But he will sing like a freaking canary/robin/finch etc, anything to shave a day off his sentence. Wiretap evidence is the most damning out there, no matter what his mouthpiece says. And they won't do the defense for free. Fitz would turn a penny he found into the lost and found! That's what kind of guy he is. Rick Gibbs

Fitzgerald might have done some damage to the prosecution by running his mouth so much with comments like "Lincon turning in his grave" and other bias pre-trial statements. How could a court find a non partisan jury when the guy is already tried and convicted by Fitz and the media 24/7.The defence and some Federal judges are crying foul.

Many times wiretaps are throw out if they are not crystal clear or have signs of being stopped and started to hide true intent or hypothetical conversation. Sometimes statements from already convicted rats looking for sentence reductions are discounted. We have not got to hear the actual audio tapes yet just the written interpetation from the FBI transcrips and a overzealous DA who's motives may be in question.

Not trying to defend the guy,The evidence appears overwhelming but we really don't know. I have read about many unjust convictions where DNA exonerated the poor shmuck that took the fall. All this will come out. And even Blogo has rights to a fair trial.

MIA, I still think Obama will throw Blago under the bus. His relatives live in mud huts and welfare tenements. He is demonstrably willing to leave people for dead, if he thinks association with them hurts him in any way.

You have to learn to characterize your Democratic politicians accurately. Despite the exhortations of Right-Wing radio, Obama is not your typical fat, mafia-connected Chicago alderman who has calzones and beer with his same group of buddies at the same downtown grub joint every Thursday at 11:30. He is a Harvard man, with an arrogant uber-educated wife who wrote arrogant thesis tomes about high-falutin' topics like "Racial Identity in America." These are not sausage-eating goodfellas. They are the upper tier of the Ivory Tower Intelligentsia.

This man wants to rewrite the DNA of American society. I don't believe he's going to get himself dirty for the benefit of a sausage-eating blue-collar political oaf like Blago. He sees himself as something more messianic than that.
