This world is one big f#$^%& ed up mess. I read the headlines of the Drudge Report and it would appear that God has about had with the human race. Possible war in Latin America, China huge military build up, Dollar at record lows, recession in US economy, Israel is at it again, Radical Muslims want to wipe all non believers off the face of the earth and to top it off they want to take away our guns!
Man what a mess!! I do not think that any candidate for Pres of US can get us out of the mess we have put ourselves in. There appears to be no common sense to the way our Govt runs our nation any more. Makes me glad to be 68 and have lived in what used to be the greatest nation in the world! Any thoughts?

Fathers have been telling this to their children for 200 years and they will continue to do this for another 200 years.

    A few opinions:

Drudge peddles sensationalism. Like a lot of talk show ideologues, he is just a lot of hot air out to make a buck for himself.

There is an old saying that God protects children, drunks and the USA. God is alive and still protects the US.

When I see all the bright young faces in the classroom, I get a double dose of hope for the future.

The USA will survive and prosper. However, it will not be the dominant economy it was at the end of WW II.

China, Japan, India, Brazil and a United Europe will each approach the size of the US economy. Over time, China may surpass the size of the US economy.

The US will evolve into a multi-racial society with whites in the minority by 2050. This is a global trend and the US will be OK and will prosper.

I believe you're correct, striper. Spending money that not only we don't have but spending money our children don't have, military spread out all over the world, 25% of the people I meet on a regular basis don't speak English. And what are we going to do about it? We are going to elect a socialist/facist to be our next president.

I feel sorry for the younger generation. We are leaving them a pile of shi*.

The ancient Greeks and Romans had the same problems: lousy neighbors, endless illegal immigration, constant wars, food problems, troubles with the Gods...it's not pleasant but it's certainly not new.

Don't know your age striper, but Pat's response (as usual) is the most sage.

The USA that we came of age in is disintegrating but the only constant in the world is change. To be sure the next generation will have challenges that we never imagined but the same could be said of America's 'greatest generation'. You know the ones born into a global depression and then came of age during a war that could have been the end of the USA.

So like it or not change happens and surviving it requires people to look at the challenges as opportunities. I bet the next great generation will make us proud.

the advent of modern computers, instant electronic money transfers and other sophisticated means of doing business has given the edge to large corporations, who now control the economy and the politics. It goes without saying that war is good for them.

You may think you have a choice.

So look at the 3 Presidential candidates and tell me what kind of a choice that is.

The plan to Have Bill Clinton and Bush Sr globetrotting in representation of our country tells me they were all in cahoots for a long time.

And now they are going to take our bread and circuses away from us.

ALF-99, I stand corrected, thankfully I did read your post more carefully. At 53, my attention to detail isn't what it used to be.

striper, At 68 you didn't think the mid-late sixties and 70's issues weren't the worst ever while they were happening?

This country is still the greatest nation on earth. That only shows you the sad state the earth is in. Every year I think things can't get worse and every year I am proven wrong. These three presidential candidates have to be at or near the bottom of all our presidential elections. I would say God help us but we already kicked God out of the country. I think we are on our own now.

The people who can, seem set on giving our country away. Including the next president, no matter which one wins. The way they give in to the illegals and take their side against our own people, makes me sick. We're just a country of wimps, now. Where the hell is Teddy R when we need him?

jAs stated above this is without a doubt the greatest nation on earth and by far the finest to live in. What other country would allow to own and use firearms at your own discretion.

As to the world's turmoils. It is nothing new. Just more and better news coverage today. Been going on since the beginning of time. - Jim

Well it is still the Greatest Nation right now but it is not as great as it once was. That said it makes the rest of the world nations even less but better than they used to be. We have our very high executives with staggering pay checks and a high profile degree. But in truth they have a very low quality of education. It does not matter what college whether it is Yale, Harvard or any as long as you got the money you get the degree. (Proven fact check cnn news)
This country's industry has become one of proectionisum. Most high profile companies will not give promptions without a degree. Their is no longer in this country where you can work up from the bottom and get to the top. Oh yes some small company might do that and its because you have a very special talent they need to survive until they become large. Then you are not needed cause you don't have a degree. That talent is called experience. I have seen this in most of the major Medical device industries all over out country. Take a look around where you work and see how manypeople have been their for years and still at their same level of standard.
The most sucessfull people in our country are self employed with very little education. What they do have is drive and guts and determination and damn the torpedoes full speed ahead. These are the ones that are going to bring back this country to greatness. They don't have greed they have HEART AND SOUL and sweat that gets the rest of the country a going. It won't be no stupid ass politation cause they are two busy trying to protect what they have. I would say the circle is about to turn. It natural and can't be stopped. It just takes time. Bill

I have to disagree with you about the education thing Bill,

It takes a whole lot more than cash to get a marketable degree. That is as true today as it was fifty years ago. You may be envious of the guys getting the big money and want to think it's only because daddy bought them a fancy sheepskin but that ain't the way of the world. You get the sheepskin and the big money when you earn them and that is something we have as US citizens ALL have the opportunity to do. You don't need a rich daddy to make it happen here all you need is ambition, drive and some brainpower.

The rate we are going,we are about to be a welfare nation.

We have sold our souls to China and a few others.

We have had wars and then we helped rebuild those countries.

Did these countries ever pay us back?

Look what we are spending in Iraq, not counting the loss of life.

Anyone of you ever think we will be paid back?

Like sitting in a bar and all your buddies are bumming drinks from you.

When your money is gone, they all seem to get up and leave.

When our money is gone no country is going to come over here and give us a bailout.

If you think not look at France and a few others in the Iraq war.

Yet, our Air Force wants to give a $38 billion dollar contract to Airbus for refueling tankers to refuel our planes.

What the hell happen to Charity begins at home?

We have opened the doors of our house to the world and they just about got all the furniture moved out.

Blind-sided!!! We didn't see it coming. Back in the early 80s' when Ronny changed the corp tax code, they took advantage (corperate accountants) and made hay. Started shutting down operations and collected corp. welfare. Reagan said we'll be a service nation and we bought into it. WE lost our base and China and India found it. A company reaches its pick in sales and the stock value will drop when profits stay the same, called stagnation. So these 5 year wonders CEO's come in hit labor, down-size etc. to show temporary gains, then rape the corp. and share holders and run with golden parachutes and other mega-million packages for themselves. And now we find out American blue collared work force is ranked 17th in wages world wide. And if they cannot move their operation to a 3rd world nation, they import legal and illegal workers that they can threaten to send home if they do't work cheap. Maybe it has not reached you yet! Someday it will, and you'll be alone...Mike
