Evening everyone!
Tonite, we are officially launching the "2008 CANADIAN" thru cyberspace to our ATA friends worldwide on our industry's greatest pipeline: TS.com!
Please punch in www.2008canadian.com and have a look.

We invite all of you to join us for the 53rd annual Canadian Trapshooting Championships, June 26-29th, at the great Hamilton Gun Club in Southern Ontario. This is Canada's only National Tournament and its most important shoot in 2008 - and we are anticipating the "2008 CANADIAN" to be the largest ATA tournament ever held on Canadian soil!!!

Check it out - we have added a record number of trophies for non-residents: more than 145! And we have added $12,000.00 in cash prizes!

The "2008 CANADIAN" falls right between the Ohio and Michigan State Shoots - and the Hamilton Gun Club is a simple drive from all New York and Michigan
border crossings. Presquadding is available on presquad.com for your convenience!

For those who haven't competed in Canada, now's the time! Don't let the naysayers try to tell you it's difficult to bring your firearms over the border for this shoot - it's not!

Please come up and enjoy the great hospitality and top competition so many of us ATA shooters in Canada have been wanting to reciprocate to you - and the weather is almost always wonderful in June!

If you need our assistance, or wish to provide us with feedback, don't hesitate to holler.
We are only a click or toll free phone call away.

www.2008canadian.com

Cheers,
Barbara Sheldon - Producer/Director of Marketing and Promotion

Jim - news of your pending arrival has sent a collective shudder of fear thru the AAA's up here, resulting in simultaneously avalanches from coast to coast.
Not to worry, with the "storm of the century" about to hit us, the mountains will be restocked overnite.

Biff - it is sooooo easy to get up here! And with our dollars so close to par, it's even easier...no need to bring loonies or twoonies! By the way, we have a great trophy for the H&W winners in the championship singles that you and Snapshot will enjoy down by your lake!

Hey Ontariogal, I just looked at your program...looks GREAT!

I hear that you have worked countless hours on this. Most folks don't realize what it takes to put something like this together and do it right.

The 2008 Canadian should "border" on nothing but success because of your hard work.

Hope to see everyone at Hamilton at the Canadian Championships, the snow should be gone by then, no need to bring a snowmobile to get to the trapline.

Morning Tommy - we are getting quotes right now as I write on having two traps (one bank)re-done on the tournament side to become entirely accessible, and one of the practice traps on the clubhouse side as well. And yes, there are trophies available in the open Chair category - think i could possibly forget about you?

Please join us - write or call me and let me know how i can help getcha here!!!
(i put the bug in Musetti's ear before he headed down to you last week)
Best to you as always,

May I add for those who may have not traveled to Canada recently.

Unless your flying, a passport is not required.

If driving (2008)...

A US government issued ID (drivers license) with photo and a birth certificate (proof of citizenship) are all that's needed when returning to the US.

The birth certificate is a new requirement.

Of course, if you have a passport, use it.

-----

Residents of the U.S. must first stop at American Customs prior to entering Canada and complete Customs Form 4457, if firearms or other high value items have not been registered with US Customs. A one time requirement.

If you live near the border or an international airport you can do this ahead of time. Anywhere customs works out of.

----

Processing a firearm into Canada.

An easy process and you can download the paperwork prior to arriving at the border. Plan on an additional 15-20 minutes at the crossing, depending on traffic. I cross all the time, no big deal.

You can import up to 1,500 rounds duty free for use at a recognized competition.

The link below should answer most questions in regard to firearms into Canada.

Shawn, thanks.
(and thanks for before!)

If we had a crystal ball, we could give you an attendance figure with relative accuracy....and we could also tell you when your Grand Slam is coming!

As it stands now, we are positioned and have learned directly of enough interest to make this shoot the largest ATA competition ever held on Canadian soil!

Of course, some things are beyond our management - like a world crisis or natural disaster....but with over 210 beautiful trophies, (more than 145 available to non-residents!) 12k cash prizes, new pat traps & orange dome white flyer targets & canterbury wireless voice releases on all the fields, a treeless background, the majors on vendors rows, great food and camaraderie, easy road and air access from the States, the tournament perfectly placed between the Ohio and Michigan state shoots....who doesn't want to come to the 2008 Canadian?

And now that the U.S. government is issuing passport "cards" for land travel, at less than half the price but the same shelf life as a full passport, it just keeps getting more appealing to our great American shooters!

Looking forward to seeing you Shawn,

b.
(oh, did I mention that Southern Ontario is absolutely gorgeous in June, and the tournament is near Niagara Falls, fabulous regional wineries and two major casinos??)

OGal, you're a great ambassador for our sport!! Great job to both you and Florin! Those driving across at Niagara Falls will notice how clean kept the Canadian countryside is too. Wish I could shoot with my friends there, maybe next time. Hap

A clarification please...

From the "2008 Canadian web" site, regarding American shooters:

"If coming by land or by sea, you just need a passport card, which is now available to you at less than ½ the cost of a passport and it’s good for ten years."

From the Potosky reply above:

"Unless your flying, a passport is not required.
If driving (2008)...
A US government issued ID (drivers license) with photo and a birth certificate (proof of citizenship) are all that's needed when returning to the US.
The birth certificate is a new requirement.
Of course, if you have a passport, use it."

What's required...the passport card or the license/birth certificate?

LAND AND SEA TRAVEL

CURRENTLY:
U.S. citizens need to present either (a) a passport, passport card (available in spring 2008), or WHTI-compliant document; or (b) a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, along with proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate.

AIR TRAVEL

ALL PERSONS traveling by air outside of the United States are required to present a passport or other valid travel document to enter or re-enter the United States.

--------

The Canadian host for the shoot has been contacted just in the past few days and they will be posting the correct information to the website.

Much confusion in what is required depending on what you read, as the government keeps changing the mandatory dates and some can easily get the wrong information.

Minimum required for 2008 when driving is US government photo ID (drivers license) and proof of citizenship (birth certificate). If flying, passport required.

Dear Captain,

I apologize for the confusion our website has created! Joe is absolutely 100%correct - currently your govn't issued driver's licence and birth certificate is all that is required.

Your Homeland Security Agency concocted and recently announced the new passport cards for those who don't want to fumble for documents at land or sea points of entry to the USA from select, nearby countries, like CANADA!

We will quickly revise the USA Shooters page on our website. A tremendous thanks to Joe Potosky for setting us all straight. He and his website, www.losttarget.com, have been so valuable to our cross-border shooter/hunter relations for years...this is why!

A message to the fella from Indiana who left a voice mail last nite on the 2008 Canadian Hotline:

I understand that you want a personal invite to assist you and your squad across the border - and we will be happy to send you one!

But your cell fone kept cutting in and out and your name and address was garbled. Please fire me off an e-mail from our website (www.2008canadian.com)
and I will be able to retrieve all your details!

Thanks - and we're thrilled you and your gang are planning to attend!

Michael, it's been my pride and pleasure (most of the time!) to help create this piece of trapshooting history in Canada. We are receiving such amazing support from so many who share our goal. And it keeps pouring in!

We will have to add a Special Announcements tab on our website shortly so we can keep everyone up to speed on the great news as it comes in - and it seems to arrive weekly now as the Tournament approaches. (I am surely testing our webmeisters', Florin & Alicia, goodness & patience now!)

And yes, as a matter of fact, we have a very special & fun role at The 2008 Canadian that needs filling that, if you are available, i think you might like & be perfect for!
