does anyone out there remember Temple wine?? it was a Kosher wine and my dad always had a gallon jug to serve company at christmas,Easter, thanksgiving. late 50's early 60's. talked to many bottle shops, nobody remembers. Mogen David was out there also at that time as they were similar in taste (grape wine).

    thanks,dennis

Didn't they just change the name of it to Muscatel? Or is it Mussitell? Whatever it is, it's some good stuff.

    "Temple wine is fine

    Drink it when you dine

    For eating or treating

    Order Temple wine,

    Sweet red Temple wine"

That jingle - sung by a strangely disembodied bass voice - played on CBS in the Sunday evening lineup of shows: Jack Benny, Amos 'n Andy, investigators Nick and Nora Charles, Suspense. Later, Gunsmoke with William Conrad as Matt Dillon, US Marshal. He was (and is) , to me, the only "real" Matt Dillon.

Muscatel is fine for normal drinking binges, but for the black tie affairs, always bring out the Ripple. Now that's high-rollin'.

At least My pappy was good enough to serve me out of a Mason jar for my first taste. That 'shine sure goes down smooth.

    Talk about headache.

Shucker - My Dad talks about a Christmas right after he and my Mom were married, and one of his uncles brought quite a few quarts of shine to the dinner. Grandpa and his brothers (4 of em)worked on the shine pretty hard and all were ok but Uncle George. Mom went to get her coat to leave and Uncle George was under all the coats. Dad said it was pretty stout.

Okolehao, Hawaiian moonshine, is still produced illegally in small quantities. There is currently no commercial production of okolehao.

What the Hawaiian shooters bring to shoots on the Mainland - brightens the eye and sweetens the breath.
