The spontaneous birth of the tea party grew from a revulsion to the size of government spending, both relative to government revenue and relative to the size of the US economy. But when it is time to cut government spending on defense to reduce that spending, where will the new tea party stand? Will it embrace these words of Patrick Buchanan:

“We borrow from Europe to defend Europe. We borrow from the Gulf states to defend the Gulf states. We borrow from Japan to defend Japan. Is it not a symptom of senility to be borrowing from the world so we can defend the world?”

Those words are from Patrick Buchanan’s new book. A review of that book is at the link.

Halfmile - Are you afraid of the words of Patrick Buchanan? How extreme are you to object to a conservative writer like Patrick Buchanan?

That is the nasty reality of where we are - we cannot continue to spend money that we don't have. There aren't any exceptions to that even when it comes to the really hard choices like cutting defense spending. And we really do need to ask questions like who are we defending and what are the consequences if we stop defending them?

It going to be painful for all - Tea party included.

Barker - Buck-up dude and write something sensible. What do you think of Buchanan's words?

Good points Wolfram. The far-right nuts hiding as tea partiers just go dumb when challenged about cutting their pet projects to reduce government spending.

When you stop the name calling you apply to the Tea Party people, then we will talk, not before.

Is this you? It was taken at the Flea Bag Party gathering here in Denver. Looks like a FDA (Future Democrats of America) to me.
