It is rapidly becoming obvious that swine flu is turning out to be nothing more than media hype and government stupidity. Only 800 cases world wide and a handful of deaths. Probably more than 800 people got hit by buses inthe last week.

Definitely. The only deal with this is that it's a strain of flu that hasn't been seen in around 50 years, so nobody's immune system is used to it, and it spreads fast. The media is just making another story, and trying to overhype it by talking about deaths. Well, 35,000 people die from the flu every year, this is no different.

Its still just a flu. Influenza is number 8 on the top ten causes of death according to the cdc. The big hype is it spreading across countries which is why it is a pandemic

Globally, the number of confirmed cases last night stood at 658, out of a world population of about 6.8 billion. Meanwhile, nearly 900,000 people a year die of malaria.

At the VA hospital here in Seattle it's posted swine flu has been seen in Seattle. Have not seen any media of this though. With just 658 cases world wide there must be at least 1 case in every major city. WOW that's unreal.

What's the difference between a pandemic and an epidemic?

The flu goes around the world every year, and always starts in Asia. It mutates, and then starts all over again.

Now how did it get so prevalent in Mexico? My guess is that the US has tightened it's coastal harbors to the point that the illegeal immigrating Asians are going to Mexico, and then crossong the northern border.

History had the influenza moving across Europe before coming to North America.

Yes but don't forget,,,,if the media and gov't "hype" this enough,,,,gives them another "reason" for universal health care since "everybody" cannot "afford" the flu shot,,,,

Just another "crisis" not going to waste!!!!

Who cares? It's the flu; could it be that Obama needs to be made a hero so the media helps sell him again???
