I haven't reloaded in over 20 years, as a matter of fact I still have 8 bags of magnum shot I know I payed less than $14.00 a bag for :). My powder of choice at the time was Red Dot, followed by 700X and Green Dot.

What is the powder of choice nowadays? Where can I get the best price?

PM me if you don't want to reveal your source on the net.

    Regards,

    Andy

Promo is a little cheaper than Red Dot and gives about the same results, otherwise I'd stay with what your doing.

If you liked Red Dot, there's absolutely nothing wrong with it for many loads. I use Promo, which is similar, but much less expensive. It is used for about 60 - 70% of my loads. Great powder for 7/8oz, 1oz, and 1150+ fps 1 1/8oz. You just need to weigh your drops and check each jug, since it will vary from lot to lot and sometimes jug to jug. Green Dot is what I use for 1 1/8oz at 1200 fps and above (Handicap). At 1250 and a bit higher, I use Unique for 1 1/8.

Where you are located might have a bearing on where you could get a deal. Paying Hazmat and shipping VS picking some up within an hours drive might make a big difference in cost.
