It's been awhile. I pulled out the last box of my reloads and it was dated 1982.

Just bought a new Browning XT and a used MEC Grabber 762R to replace my 600 JR. Am trying to clean up components. Am accumulating STS hulls and will stick with those. I don't have any more of the AA hulls I used to load.

I need recipes for a 1 1/8 ounce load using the STS hulls and the following other components. It can be anywhere between 1100 fps and 1200 fps.

    Red Dot powder
    WAA12 wad
    CCI209 primer (not 209M)
and all the same as above but with
    Winchester 209 primer.

The Alliant web page does not show those combinations of components.

Any suggestions or referrals to other online sources of loading data?

    Thanks,

    Dave

17.5 grains will give you about 1150 fps with either of those primers. That load pretty much duplicates the factory Remington Light Target shell.

You could call Alliant and ask them. 1-800-276-9337

    Dave,

I've been loading the same components with Win 209's, in AA's and STS's for years. We use 19.2 grains of red dot and the loads chronograph at 1190 from both hulls.

I use this load for all yardages.

    Safe Loading!!!

Thanks for the responses. Regarding the Red Dot's age - it is current manufacture. A four-pound jug of it came with the Grabber, along with 500 WAA12's.

    Thanks again,

    Dave

Get the RCBS Shotshell Reloading book. It has about the best loading data I have ever seen for most of the common componants.

I know with 700x you are allowed to use CCI in a federal or winchester primer recipe as per hogdon.

But NOT a federal or Winchester in a CCI recipe.

The primers from hottest to "cold" is federal winchester CCI Remington when I called to ask.

But for example I was told I will lose 20-25 fps when using a CCI instead of a winchester

Lyman's 5th edition lists Rem STS hull, Win 209 primer, WAA12 wad, 18.0 grains Red Dot 1145fps and 10,300 psi.

That's the only data I can find for those components between my Lyman's 5th, Reloading for shotgunners 5th, or Alliant manual.

Thanks again, guys, for the information. My latest shotshell loading manual is the Lyman 2nd edition. Guess it's time to update the library.

17.5 red dot,1 1/8oz. #8,windjammer wad,STS, w209. Great singles load and I use it back to the 22-23yd line. 1150 fps. If you use AA wads the fps will be slightly higher. Enjoy Joe
