I have been successful using Remington Premier STS Light Handicap. It is a 3dram 1 1/8 1200fps load. I would like to reload this same load or something close. I normally use 700x in my reloads.

Any suggestions on powder and grains to use? Thanks.

I like to use Clays to duplicate these loads. About 17.4-17.5gr with a Claybuster WAA12 w/ a 209 primer.

Double check with YOUR IMR manual or on-line: Rem STS/Nitro hull, Rem 209P primer, Rem Fig 8 wad, 1 1/8 oz shot, 18 grs of 700X; 1205 f/s 10,400 psi.

I prefer Hodgdon International clays; link to Hodgdon's website above. I think you can also access IMR data there too, since Hodgdon owns IMR now.

Green Dot. Rem STS Hull, Rem 209 primer, 20.3 grains Green Dot, CB 3118 White 8 Wad, 1 1/8 Magnum 7 1/2. 1200 fps. 9700 psi. As close as I have found to the factory load as far as pattern and recoil.

I am also a fan of the STS Light Handicap load. The load I use to duplicate is:

    STS Hulls
    17.8 gr Claydot
    Downrange XL 1-1/8 wad
    Remington 209 Primer
    1-1/8 oz 8's

I prefer the Remington primer due to the fact it has lower pressure than a Winchester.

I think it was mentioned at the shotgunworld.com by an rep from Alliant that they provide Remington their powder for that load, and if you want to replicate it as close as possible, use Rem STS hulls, Rem 209P primers, Rem Fig 8 wads, and Red Dot (19 gr) or e3 (17.5 gr) powder.

Personally, I much more prefer Winchester's AA 3 dram 1 1/8 oz factory load to Remington's. IMO, there's a noticable difference in recoil.

I duplicate that load for $4.25 per box with no labor involved. They are the Wallyworld Federals.

The Hodgdon's Basic Reloader's Manual contains the following entry:

    <I>
    "USE 19.2 gr.Clays and all Rem.components to duplicate the STS Light Handicap load. (STS12LH 12 Premier® STS® Light Handicap 2 3/4" 3 1200 1 1/8 7½, 8)"</I>

I do as Slick does, except that I dropped to 18grs. of Promo, and use Fiocchi primers. I love this load.

A load I really like that comes close is this:

17.1 grains of Hodgdon TITEGROUP (NOT TITEWAD)

1 1/8 oz. of magnum shot

    Winchester 209 primer

    TGT-12S wad

This is NOT in Hodgdon's data because I substitute a tGT-12S wad where they show a Figure 8, but it works really well. Use at your own risk!!!

    Timb99 and others,

According to Hodgdon, The Remington Fig.8 and TGT-12 wad are interchangable without any effects on pressure. I too load a lot of Titegroup and have to use the TGT to get the crimps right on Remington hulls. If I use Winchester hulls the Fig.8's work better, go figure.

Somewhere in the back of my mind I knew that, but I couldn't find it recently.

    Where is that stated?
