What is a reload formula to make a STS 1 oz load @ 1285fps (per the box) I tried some today. Very soft and smoked the target from the 25. Has anyone duplacated the shell?

You can very nearly duplicate this, down to the primer and wad.

    Use Hodgdon Titegroup Powder

    Remington Hull

    Titegroup 18.6 grains

    One ounce of shot

    Remington 209P primer

Remington TGT 12 (or substitute Downrange DRRT12 Wad)

    10,100 PSI

    1290 fps

BTW, did you mean the factory Nitro shells that are 1 ounce at 1290 or the factory STS shells that are 1 ounce at 1185?

What I gave you above is to duplicate the Nitro load.

Those are a long way from 1185fps listed on the STS box. I not talking about the Nitro 27's. Just the basic STS 1 oz. #8 load at 1185fps. Sorry about the confusion....

Your first post said 1285fps I think that is what had everyone confused. I use CCI 209 primer 16.7 of Clays DRRT12 and 1oz of West Coast Mag #8 or #8 1/2 in a STS or Gun Club Hull. Great load. I recently started using 16 grains of Clays for around 1145fps even softer and still crushes clays.

Aha, hence my confusion (reread your original post.)

    My singles load:

    Remington Hull

    Hodgdon Clays 17.0 grains

    One ounce of shot

    Winchester 209 primer

    Downrange XL-1 neon green wad

    Tested out to

    8,600 PSI

    1160 fps

timb99 - Is your recipe correct? Are you using Titegroup or Titewad? Thanks.

In my first post above, Titegroup is the powder. Cut and pasted right off Hodgdon's website.

Clays is not available. At least I've been unable to buy any.

I ran out of Clays too, but had some Titewad laying around, so I made up some with this recipe.

    Remington Hull

Hodgdon Titewad 16.3 grains (using a Hornady #408 bushing)

    One ounce of shot

    Winchester 209 primer

    Downrange XL-1 neon green wad

I have not had this load pressure tested nor chronographed. But it works pretty good, and I can't tell the difference between it and my Clays load, target-break-wise or recoil-wise.

I'm out of Clays too. But I do have a fair supply of International Clays so I am using 20.5g of International and a DR TgT12 clone with 1 Oz shot and a winchester primer. This load is a bit fast but it's clean and really smokes the targets.
