Due to health issues (big baby ?) recoil is a growing problem, can one be competitive from the 27 with the sts 1 ounce(@ 1180)? Kirk

Of course, all you have to do is point correctly.

It's not the 27, but I shot 1 oz. of 71/2 at 1125 FPS from the 25 at our recent state shoot and shot 21,23,24,25, and the breaks were impressive. Only using 15.7 of Clays. If you want low recoil try it.GaryL.

    I shot 7/8 0z 9's 1150 at the 16 and 1 Oz 8's 1200 from the 24. Grabbed the wrong box one day and ran'em at the 24. Now I just use 7/8 oz 8 1/2 1150 at the 16 and 25, yeah I earned a yard with 7/8 oz.

Kirk, 1 oz #8 has more pellets than 1 1/8 oz #7 1/2. At 1180fps, the 8s carry more than enough energy to break any target for the 27. Personally, I think the STS 1oz #8 load is one of the very best target shells on the planet.

I shot FITASC with that shell. It will break any Trap target.

Let me just add this to the discussion. You'll break more targets if you can keep your head on the stock with a lighter load than you can by lifting or flinching because of too much recoil.

I have no idea if the gun you are shooting is fitted to you or not. If it isn't, then make an appointment with a reputable fitter. The felt recoil will be reduced a lot.

Those 1 oz 1180 fps STS's are exceptionally good shooting factory shells.

Now why would you want to walk to the line with 8 less shells than harlan, leo, and ray ?

We have our Utah Senior Vet team captain, who shoots 1 oz. of 8's for everything and hits very high averages from the 27 yd. line. Bruce

I wouldn't feel uneasy about shooting a decent 1oz load from the 16 out to the 27. I've used them from the back fence and they will work if you put the shot on the target. If recoil is an issue, there are many things you can do to reduce it. One of them is going to a lighter load like the STS 1 oz.
